We had the good fortune of connecting with Karson Neu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karson, how do you think about risk?
I took a risk when I decided to leave my full-time job in Dallas, TX working for a medical marketing company to pursue a full-time fitness career in Houston, TX. I think that change doesn’t always have to be scary and most of the time if you dont take a risk, you would be left wondering “what if” and so that is. exactly why I made the move!Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I grew up an athlete. I did every sport I could get my hands on. One of my first jobs was working front desk at a local gym in the town I grew up in and I feel that is what really fueled my passion for fitness. So easy part for me was turning to fitness full time solely based on my background of living a very active lifestyle. The hard part was the uncertainty of being able to see if I would be finically stable. I never really knew what an income looked like for someone who does professional fitness and so I was a little intimidated. But if there’s one thing you should know about me, I am not someone to back down from difficult situations and if I want it bad enough I will make it work. It isn’t always about the money though, I truly believed that I had found something so special that not a lot of people are able to pursue so I really didn’t think twice about it!Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend is into fitness just like me so when she is coming in to town she is definitely going to be taking a class with me, but the fun thing about being a fitness professional is we love to eat. I mean we stay constantly hungry lol! Not to be cliche, but El Tiempo is a must for out of town-ers. Fajitas and margaritas and we’re set! Brunch at Tiny Boxwoods is always fun, especially when the weather is nice because the patio is so adorable. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ashley Gooch, co-founder of RYDE. I truly owe so much to her. I remember I was in the corporate world and traveling ALOT, and on one of my business trips I flew to Houston. Not to back up too much, but on top of my corporate job in Dallas, TX I was teaching part-time at an indoor cycling studio (only 2 times a week) — with that being said anytime I traveled out of town I loved to take cycling at other studios. So on one of my trips to Houston I was looking at cycle studios in the area. RYDE had huge accolades online and I knew I had to take. Ashley was my first instructor at RYDE and at the time I had always thought about going into fitness full-time but wasn’t really sure. I was BLOWN away at how talented she was as well as the RYDE community that was around me in the class. I mean I remember thinking, this place is full of athletes and I instantly knew I had to be a part of it. I have grown to be what I am today because of her – so yes, she deserves lots of credit for where I am.
