We had the good fortune of connecting with Chef Tay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chef, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I considered starting to work for myself, I was at a place in life where I was redefining the things I valued and the importance of TIME. Punching a clock comes with its pros (don’t get me wrong), but the biggest con has to be watching how many hours you put into something that you have no sense of ownership in. I felt If I could find the value and importance in my life for a 9-5, I could also do the same for my creative outlet with the ‘Dining With Tay’ platform. Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The vibe/aesthetic for Dining with Tay is Cajun seafood/soul food. In my family these are the two things you actually come to the party on time for. I’m proud of the response and feedback I get from posts whether negative or positive. Growth is inevitable, so I just take it all in. Professionally in this field, there were times my profit was not enough as far as my investment. So making lists, checking local markets and stores prices before going has helped save a substantial about money which can be invested else where back in the business. I want the world to know that @Diningwithtay is good down south home cooking with love. When my place opens, I want my great greats to know me for the great food and vibes I give.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well with corona virus very much relevant to our day to day, I spend alot of time inside. So me and bestie would be setting up games throughout the day as i prepped for a 5 star experience, cooked, sang our hearts away on karaoke!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Friends and family keep me going and motivated daily. Being able to be a witness to the many talents, skills, hard work and consistency put in constantly reminds me there’s no excuse! From the successful platforms on Instagram clothing line @bawsebae ,sugar scrubs @scrubbedbyjaee, @seasonedbyfreya on the pots,@coazhzshanelle with the training camps/clinics for the youth to , ‘Jmph pressure washing’ services on Facebook. The list goes on and on, these are just a few of my faves 🤞🏾
