We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebony Noir and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ebony, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
I disagree when people tell others to have business cards and a website before you start a business. I have found time and time again this advice isn’t helpful and always given. Often times people feel overwhelmed when considering starting a business and to add these elements only creates roadblocks. Also, passing out business cards should not be done unless someone asks. Think about how many business cards you have thrown away! Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I absolutely love to create natural makeup looks for women of all ethnicities. I’ve recently partnered with a photographer and we are working on less traditional makeup and more artistic forms of makeup. I’m super excited about it too! I love working with other artists! I haven’t met anyone pursuing the makeup industry and being a full time therapist. My clients get to experience the peace and calmness my therapeutic presence as if they ate in a therapy session. These aspects definitely set me apart. The experience of the makeup industry has not been hard for me. I believe it’s because it’s genuinely one of my hobbies and I just so happen to get paid while doing it. I’m forever grateful to have steady business over the years and meet some amazing people along the way. Recently, I’ve discovered something new about being an influencer, artist and a growing entrepreneur and that is…people are NOSEY! Lol! I made one personal post and in no time I received followers. I kinda thought it was weird and it’s true, people want to know people as a whole. There are some that will suggest to keep is business only. I want the world to know I am in my business 100%. No one is coaching or guiding me to do anything. The elements of my personal life I share is strategic. I will add, I depend on God and my intuition. I want the world to know I am very much a figure it out kind of business woman. I also want the world to know there is no blueprint to your life so create your own path.If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m very much the chill intimate kind of woman. Before the pandemic, I’d honestly take my best friend to the hottest crawfish and margarita place (that changes every year in Houston). However, if they don’t eat crawfish, I’d take them to THE BEST burger place in Houston called The New Spot Eatery. Actually they have really good crawfish too! If I take them to a spot for drinks I’d take them to Oporto, Amhale or the Secret Garden Bar. I love Oporto because it’s always low key and the ambience is lovely and relaxing. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Doing my own personal work has inspired my entire journey. As a therapist, I can’t imagine continuing authentic work and not be true to myself. When I began being a freelance makeup artist, I gave myself one year. I made a decision to allow the results to make the decision for me. If I had no clients for an entire year, I’d stop and do something else. After pursuing makeup, my love for the makeup industry grew. I am thankful for every client I have had and returning clients. Thank you!
