We had the good fortune of connecting with Latasha Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Latasha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always loved helping women feel their best. So at a young age styling hair was always more than a hobby. My goal was to provide the best services and truly listen to my clients needs and provide services that truly represents each person and fits their style. My thought process when creating hair product collection was to make sure my clients were able to take home salon quality to help maintain the health of their hair at home.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Fiber hair salon is my business but the feelings my clients get after I show them the mirror is what I do it for. For me doing hair goes far beyond just styling, coloring, cutting and adding extensions. It has always been about building confidence as well. I love providing a safe place for clients to relax, get pampered and often share valuable information with each other. It’s deeper than hair for sure. I created Fiberguard solutions with stylists and clients in mind and I’m super excited for growth of the brand and the opportunity to grow and branch out from behind the chair as well. I would say that I’ve gotten to where I am today by taking risks and leaning into experience. It’s all about doing things at the right time and putting in your time to gain knowledge. I’ve also never been afraid to ask questions and am constantly learning.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a week to show my best friend around Austin we would definitely start on a Sunday morning for Brunch. Austin has so many amazing brunch spots that deciding where to go is always the hard part. We would definitely have to hit up Snooze, an A. M eatery. With three locations here to choose from, Pumpkin pancakes and coffee libations, its at the top of my list. other favorites are First watch, and Glorias. On days when we just want a quick pastry and coffee Austin’s coffee shops are abundant and never disappoint. Summer moon is at the top of my list as #1, If I’m in need of a scene and feel like venturing to the city Mozart’s coffee Roasters is my go to. For family fun I love visiting Mueller lake park, they have a nice farmers market on the weekends, the thinkery children’s museum, the Alamo movie theater, a park and a beautiful lake where we can feed the ducks and walk the trails. I also love Zilker park to ride the train and enjoy the trails and a must on the list is ladybird lake to go Kayaking or paddle boarding. For unique shopping we would stop by South Congress and check out the boutiques and Perlas for amazing oysters and seafood or Torchys for tacos. The Domaine in North Austin is my favorite spot because it has it all. Shopping, Food and Nightlife. I love to shop at Nordstrom and have lunch at the restaurant there. Velvet Taco is amazing, Doc B’s and Yardhouse are at the top of my list. we would rope off the week taking pics at all the fun murals around the city and maybe even go to a winery.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My story wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for my loving, supportive Mother. Growing up my mom was also an entrepreneur and owned a children’s daycare. I watched and admired her handling business and never complaining when times got hard. It was in the 10th grade that I recognized my gift as a hairstylist and started doing hair for my friends. My mother allowed me to run an entire hair business from out home and even purchased my first full set of supplies to invest in my dreams.. Then my friends mother’s and other family member started booking with me as well, It was then that I knew that it was more than a hobby. My mother’s support is the only reason I am on this path. She has always nurtured my dreams and been my biggest cheerleader.. I am forever Grateful and blessed for my Mother Marilyn.
