We had the good fortune of connecting with Desirae Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Desirae, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There wasn’t really a thought process for starting Moxie and Magic. I’ve always created things for myself and my family, and eventually, I knew that one day it would lead to selling to a broader audience and that’s when I started Moxie and Magic!. It’s been a fun journey to send happy mail across the U.S. and it’s something I’m very proud and passionate about.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At Moxie and Magic, I believe that everyone is unique, beautiful, deserves to be celebrated, and a force of character and that everyone has a little magic in them. I am drawn to neutral and warm tones and I feel very connected to those colors. For an outsider, colors are just colors but to me, colors represent feelings and emotions. Warm colors represent optimism and the changing seasons in life. A majority of my work is done in these warmer tones and It simply just brings a sense of calmness and hope to me. A lot of my work is also inspirational and feels very good and happy. I love inspiring people and trying to make them the best version of themself. Every day I create something in the hopes of making someone smile. I’m proud of the community I’ve built. I love sending orders to people, I love creating something and seeing it get recognition, It’s still fascinating to me when I see products that I’ve been working on digitally and that moment I can see and touch it physically is the best feeling!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite Houston spots include shopping on W 19th street, doing some mural hunting for a fun photo session, enjoy a sunset picnic at Buffalo Bayou (because the skyline at golden hour is just amazing!), and ending the night with yummy treats from SWEET in City Centre!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family. I probably wouldn’t be doing any of this if it wasn’t for them. They are definitely my biggest fans and they are just the best!
