We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyrescha Blaylock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyrescha, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Some habits that I feel have helped me succeed in life are spending quality time with God and learning to believe in myself. I am thankful to be surrounded by amazing people and I know for a fact, they area huge part of the reason I am where I am today. I’ve learned that keeping a positive attitude through out my nursing school journey and making sure to have a day(or two) of self care are habits that have motivated me to stay focus and keep pushing forward. I also keep a gratitude and prayer journal to write down things I am thankful for. It reminds me to be present in life and to pray for myself and those around me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently, I am just a full time nursing student. I volunteer when I can, but I am mostly focused on finishing school. I think I am most proud of the fact that I was able to get in to nursing school and maintain good grades every semester. Last year, I was nominated to be on the Student Advisory Board for my Cohort and ended up winning the position. It was somewhat of a shock to me because I didn’t even know I was nominated until a friend mentioned it to me. I was hesitant about accepting the position at first but in the end I’m glad I did. I got to where I am because of the support of my family, my Fiancé and A LOT of prayer. I will say maintaining the grades to stay in nursing school has not been easy, but it has definitely been worth it. One of the lessons I learned along the way is to never give up on your dreams no matter how hard the journey may be because what is for you will always be for you. One saying I live by is “God will open doors that no man can close” and I truly believe this because I have witnessed things He has done for me. I guess something I want the world to know about me is that I’m just a girl from Texas trying to help heal, inspire and educate those around me and make my family proud.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my family, friends, my amazing mentors and study group for pushing me on days I wanted to give up and for always being so supportive. They have all in some way inspired me to be a better person and to go after what ever it is I want in life.
