We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlene Jean-Pierre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charlene, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
I collect quotes so I have so many I could choose from right now! However, one that sticks out in my mind the most is, “the two most important people you will need to know is God and you. You can’t know the latter without first knowing the former.” I heard the first part of this quote from a pastor years ago and added the second part. This quote has rung so true in my life. It’s what has shaped my life for many years and what has led me toward my purpose and life mission of walking alongside women helping them to become the women of God they were created to be and to do the things they’ve been called to do. For so many years, I didn’t believe I had a purpose. My identity was shaped by culture, my family background, and who others told me I was or was expected to be. When I found myself in a deep depression over 10 years ago, it was here that I truly began to understand and embrace this quote. The more I got to know the Lord– the One who created me with purpose, for purpose and on purpose–the more I got to know who I really was in Him. It has made all the difference and is a governing principle in my life, which has led to greater peace, more freedom, and joy overflowing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I still feel like I am fairly new to the city of Houston, even though I have been here almost 4 years. I would take them to the Waterwall Park, which is near the Galleria area, so they could take some beautiful pics. We would definitely go to grab brunch at Another Broken Egg Cafe near Vintage Park and maybe take a drive to the Kemah Boardwalk, to walk around the waterfront, do a little shopping and grab some yummy seafood. I would show them around downtown Houston and take them to Discovery Green, and the Museum of Fine Arts. We would try to catch a play at the Ensemble Theatre and watch some live music at the Marriott Marquis Hotel downtown that has the Texas shaped swimming pool. I would definitely take them to the Houston Arboretum so we could get some exercise in. We would probably also take a day trip to San Antonio riverfront, catch a boat ride to learn about the history of the city, visit the Japanese Tea Garden and then eat at Nonna Osteria, a delicious Italian restaurant in San Antonio. I would also take them to City Centre in Houston on a Sunday evening to listen to some more live music and then close it out with a delicious dinner at Eddie V’s.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many that I could think of along my journey that have been so encouraging, supportive, loving, and gracious. In this season in my life and entrepreneurial journey, I would like to shout out the Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur (KDE) community/movement, which has been instrumental in helping to shift my mindset to a Kingdom focus. They have encouraged me to keep getting to know God more through an intimate relationship with Him. They have challenged me to really evaluate my priorities, values and pursuits to make sure they are in line with the Lord and His Kingdom. I have met some amazing men and women and am building relationships with other entrepreneurs who love Jesus and who are truly making a generational and Kingdom impact in the marketplace. Lastly, this community has helped me to shift from a grind and hustle mentality to operating in the grace of God, and it has truly been a game changer for me! I finally feel like I fit in and am a part of a community that “gets” me. This is so important for me as I am realizing every day how important it is to be in a healthy, supportive community as an entrepreneur.
