Meet Abel Getaneh | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Abel Getaneh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abel, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My work life balance has significantly changed over time. I would say COVID-19 definitely had its effects on me. Getting a 9-5 job in high school was never really in my plan book. When covid happened, I had a lot of free time after online school. So I decided to get a job. The first job I got was as a Lead setter for a Solar Panel Company (Sunpro). Sunpro hours were from noon- 6, so I had to get all my school work done in the morning. It was difficult, but I made it work. After Sunpro, I got a better position with ESD Solar as a Licensed Solar Contractor. Being in the solar game allowed to build my sales experience. I got to meet with customers to present and pitch out Solar services. I would say I was pretty successful in my field. As far as balance goes though, it was manageable. As a contractor, I don’t have to work a specific number of hours. Since I work off of appointments that allowed me to be really flexible in my day to day life. With that being said, I did have a little to much flexibility for my liking so I decided to get a second job as an AT&T sales consultant. My track sheet from solar landed me that job almost instantly. Now I manage both school, ESD solar, and a 40 hour per week shift with At&t. Sometimes I do think about my balance, and if I’m pushing it too much. Those thoughts usually get dismissed when I think about the amount of experience I’m getting in sales.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For me, I believe I’m in the early stages of building my knowledge and experience. The jobs I do now are my foundation for my bigger plans in life. Got to start somewhere right! Even with that though I’ve had my own share of obstacles. Whether it be closing a deal with a brand or closing a contract with a customer there’s always a wall I have to go through. I use the strength of consistency and retargeting to do so. It’s funny, in my path to success so far I have proven the wise words of Robert Kiyosaki to myself. “The more you learn the more you earn.” That is the biggest lesson I have learned. The more knowledge I take in about how a system works the bigger my bank account gets. I take that quote with me everywhere I go. I really believe it’s the first sentence of my journey. That is why I took on the the sales positions at both ESD solar and AT&T. The more I’m around that environment the faster I’m going to master that skill. Moving one, I’m also in works with my close friend/ brother Alazar in the clothing brand NOBRAC. When he had the idea start this brand, he came to me and asked if we can be partners and I control the marketing side of things. I didn’t even hesitate to say yes. Since then the brand has hit many milestones, to where we’re planning big things. So stay tuned for that! To wrap it up, I just want people to know if a 6 year old little boy from Ethiopia can grow up to have big dreams, and start his journey to achieve them. Then there’s no reason for you to not dream as well. We have the chance to dream!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a funny question. Lol. If I had a friend come over I would probably take them scooter ridding in downtown the first night. Then probably check out one of the dope food spots in downtown. I like doing activities when I go out. For example, I don’t find going to the movies exciting at all. I would rather go to go carting or to a trampoline park. One place you do have to check out though is Holman Draft Hall. There patty melt and frozen drinks are amazing! 10 outa 10 recommend.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In my life there have been countless people that’s have helped me through my struggles, that allowed to be in the position I am right now. That being said, I would love to give a big shout out to the “last 12 standing” this group is a family to me. The biggest support group you can ever get. Second I would love to shout out the staff at Alief Early College High School for installing in me the mindset of a hard worker. There dedication to my success was one of the reasons I’m here today. Third, shout out goes to “alpha g”. Man, when say they you talk to 1 or 2 people after high school. They weren’t lying. These boys have stuck with me since day one. We even seen each other in our deepest and brightest moments. I can sit here all day and give shoutouts. Like I said earlier there are countless people that deserve it. So in all, if you have crossed paths with me, big shout out to you! Lol.
