We had the good fortune of connecting with Teahne Tapscott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Teahne, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly, the thought process was easy it was more of a “just do it” type of thing I didn’t really think of it as a business at first and still kind of don’t. Music was always something I connected with and being a DJ was always a side dream of mine at first it was a form of therapy finally just going through with it, I’m on a journey to be comfortable and be okay with myself so working a 9-5 or two jobs at that wasn’t it anymore, it was a now or never type thing for me. To have something that’s mine and it can be a form of healing for myself and others is more than is enough for me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As I said before I am still in the beginning stages of everything, I’m still learning as I go but at end of the day I wanna be a voice to people as well as give them something they can use to get through. Being a DJ/Content Creator was something I never saw happening, it was just a thing that always gonna stay in my head but I needed a change and a drastic one and this was my way out to do something for me and potentially help others. I’ve always been a music head I was always that one people went to for that go to song or album. which turned to me making playlist for any type of mood or occasion. I like to tell stories with different songs and with DJ’ing giving me the ability to recreate a song or combine them was a winner. I’ve always been a very chill individual and the word chill always resonated with me so I took it a step further (Choose How I Live Life) Chill is my brand hence DJ Chillt but its for everyone we all got to chill out here and find what works for us all. How did I get where I am with everything is just by doing it its not easy at all going out your comfort zone to put yourself as well as your abilities out in the world which for me is my biggest challenge but to go past that and just do it is the best feeling ever to look at something or when I hear one of my mashups/mixes and to say I made that really does something for my spirit to see people add my playlist or groups that wanna work with me and so forth. The lessons I’m learning everyday mainly is to trust myself and not worry about the next person, I’m learning to live for myself and go for what I want, to show others that its okay not to have it all but to just CHILL.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m still very new to this area but I would definitely take them to downtown Houston, Its overwhelming but in a good way its just so much to see. I would take them to the graffiti wall out there to see all the culture and art as well as take them to the water wall the area is so beautiful and peaceful. As far as places to eat, I would take them to LA Crawfish on Bay Area Blvd the food and vibes were chill. I would also take them to this place called the Back Porch Grill also on Bay Area for some good drinks maybe play some pool the people are cool there as well so you can have some good discussions as well. I’m still learning so honesty the week would be an adventure for both of us to discover new things and places but keeping it chill all the way.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Everyday is always a new challenge/lesson to learn but the success from just doing this in general comes from a lot of people that I’m very grateful for. A big shoutout goes to a very dear friend of mine Chelsea Lazard (@bukuinks) with her ongoing support and encouragement giving me the opportunity to be out here in Houston to really make this happen as well as referring me to you guys to even do this article I am forever grateful. Another one goes to another good friend Justin Hayes (@superSonicatz) for his on going encouragement and advice him believing in me and wanting the best for me. I can forget my best friend/sister Alyssa Dunn, me and her can write a book from our adventures her on going support and love she’s always been there for me. I am grateful for my mom for her support and love I wouldn’t be here without her and my Aunt Natalie Wood with her love, advice and acceptance, all of my family and friends for they’re on going support on this Journey.
