We had the good fortune of connecting with Chiquita Murrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chiquita, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is my connection with people in general. The most important factor behind the success of our brand is our solid vision to help women with self love as a mother/ daughter business.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have modeled for over 20 years and I’ve been a co creator of Nina’s Chiqs Waist Beads with my 17 year old daughter for almost 10 years now. We got to where we are with consistency. We had to keep improving our jewelry making abilities. We crafted only for several years before selling. We also took breaks when it was important. School is always a priority and my daughter would create design ideas on the weekends and during the summer. It definitely wasn’t easy. We overcame challenges by prioritizing by learning from them. We’ve learned how to listen to our customers and grow with them over the years. Marketing has changed and we’ve been learning to use social media to market. We want the world to know our brand is about helping your energy. We want women’s confidence to grow once thet get adorned with our Waist Beads. We also use different energies in our crafting. One of them being sound energy after crafting and before shipping.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take my best friend to Island Spice Grill to eat some good Caribbean food. They have the best oxtail fries on Sunday. We’d also go to D’ Caribbean Curry Spot Cuisine to enjoy a good soup. We’d go visit the Houston Museum of African American Culture. I’d take to a Soca Passion party for some good Caribbean dancing and fun. I’d take her shopping in the Galleria. Some of the most fun places places to go are small family owned restaurants. We’d go to Oyster Creek park for the lakes. Yoga spots are also cool places to go. Some of the most exciting people are Caribbean and African American people.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shout out in loving memory to my grandmother Nina. Shout out to my daughter Leia and our family.  Also a shout out to my Mentor Mr. Goff. We send special love to anyone who has ever supported this journey including our lovely clients (Our Chiqs)
