We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Jacobs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My love for people. I enjoy learning about different perspectives and helping businesses with visibility.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In 2020 so many things changed. With that, the demand for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) consultants increased tremendously. I did not hear any discussion about DEI as it relates to the nonprofit sector, so I decided to fill that need by providing training and consulting services.

I have worked in the nonprofit and DEI sectors professionally for years and I love being able to open up someone’s mind or help them to see things from a different lens. The people who I have met on this journey have been amazing — mentors, colleagues and clients alike.

In my professional journey I have learned authenticity is key. It is not always easy to be authentic due to pressure from the company, peers or society — but things will always fall into place. I realized if I have to “fake the funk” I don’t need to do it. Another big lesson for me is step out on faith and take chances, you never know what’s in store.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a foodie, but I also love a beautiful space. Some of my faves are State of Grace, the C. Baldwin Hotel, Tiny Boxwoods and The Annie Cafe and Bar. Also any place the crawfish are hot and spicy when they are in season!

I also love serene outdoor environments like the Rothko Chapel and Tom Bass Park. I might take them do a 3rd Ward Tour, visit Project Row Houses, get coffee at Doshi House and pick up some books from Kindred Stories. I am also really into art — local galleries, HMAAC, Rice University, and all the murals around town. Lastly, what’s a trip without shopping — Rice Village, Baybrook Mall, Highland Village and more.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family. They always show up and encourage me to keep going.
