We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandra Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sandra, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Houston Texas, born and raised. My mother and father however are from Mexico. My Mother is from Sabinas Hidalgo and my father from San Luis Potosi. My upbringing is your traditional Mexican household. I had a very strict father who worked extremely hard to provide for his family and I had a mother who was on her knees praying for her family every single day. These thing have impacted who I am today and I am forever grateful. From a very young age I knew I had to work hard for anything in life. I have always been told by my employers that I am a hard worker. I do my job, and I do it well. If I had to clean I would make sure to be the best cleaner it didn’t matter to me what type of job I had I just knew mentally I had to do my best. And while working hard, I also knew to trust in God. My mother raised me and my siblings to go to church every Sunday morning. In fact if we didn’t, we were not able to go out to eat that day. So yes sometimes I only went to church to make sure I was able to eat at a restaurant afterwards. BUT, now as an adult I’m so thankful my mother instilled those values on to me because without God I would be lost. We as a family faced many challenges as anyone who comes to America would. We sometimes didn’t have enough money, we sometimes didn’t have enough food, but my parents never gave up they continued on no matter the circumstances. And so that’s what I do in my life now. I push on, I strive on, and I trust in God!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am into health and fitness. I am a boxing coach and fitness trainer. My love for fitness started when I graduated high school. But my love for boxing happened roughly 5 years ago. All in all I stay active to be healthy and to make sure I’m being the best Sandra I can possible be. I’m always willing to learn more from people wiser and more knowledgeable them me. Biggest complement iv received from a mentor “Sandra you are coachable.” Never stop learning!!!I want to make sure that I show my children the importance of staying active and eating healthy. Working out does not only benefit the body physically but also mentally, which mental health is so important. Having a tough day at school? Lets do hand pads. Having a bad week, lets jog it out. I want to help you not only become a better athlete, but to become a better human. My prayer is that God pours his love into me, so that I can pour it out onto others. And that’s what I want to always represent, I may be yelling telling you to go harder in the gym but at the end of the day I want to spread love onto others. Lastly, failure is apart of Success. You cannot be scared to fail if you want to progress. Its sucks to fail, it sometimes is embarrassing but at the end of the day, you dust yourself off, and try it again. Throughout the trials, through difficult circumstances, and failure after failure, I want you to say to life. . . “AND IM STILL STANDING.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Immedialty the first thing that popped in my head is a small Mexican restaurant that I’m sure many will wonder why I even thought of them. Karranchos down in Channelview (THE EAST SIDE OF TOWN) they have amazing food, I for one am a sucker for flour tortillas with melted gooey cheese and carne de bistec. They have a outside play area that my children love to play at. and on Friday nights they have live Karaoke. Its nothing fancy but a great time to spend with family and friends on a beautiful day. And the prices are super affordable! And a go to esthetically pleasing to the eye is obviously Discovering Green located in downtown Houston. Whether you visit during the day or night there’s always beautiful pictures to capture and trails to walk, and you never know what sort of events they have planned for the community.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Husband!!! My husband John Carl is absolutely amazing, yes he truly is. He has been a apart of my life since 2010 and throughout that time he has only motivated me and encouraged me to do my best in everything. Might I add the first thing that attracted me most to him was his Love for Jesus Christ. He is a praying husband, literally on his knees for me. And that means the world. I can talk to him about anything, he is the first person I want to tell good news to or even bad news. He also seems to have the right words to say when I’m feeling a bit defeated. He believes in me more then I believe in myself. He thinks I’m the best at everything I attempt. I always tell him I wish I could see myself with his eyes! We help each other grow. Love you J.C.!
