We had the good fortune of connecting with Deron Gadsden and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deron, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always said my greatest fear isn’t dying but being forgotten. I’ve always wanted to do something that I could be remembered for. I also spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to give back to a community that has given so much to me. Those two ideas together really are the foundation for BE Impactful. It just kind of came to me one day, and it was just a hashtag at first as I was out doing different community things #BeImpactful. But then I started having ideas, and I knew in my heart that I needed a platform to express myself and these ideas.

What should our readers know about your business?

BE Impactful, is a community-based organization dedicated to positively impacting the culture through social and educational enrichment projects. I’m so proud of how far we’ve come in a short amount of time. I’m still learning, and growing as a businessman and entrepreneur. I think the biggest challenge for me is, and probably will be for a while relying on others. But it’s important that as I preach community and working together I lean into that. It’s ok to realize you can’t do it all, it’s ok to say you don’t know something. Keep people around you that can fill in those gaps, that’s what good leadership is. That’s also what makes BE Impactful so dope, in a short amount of time I’ve found a team of people that want to do the work, and they want to enjoy life while doing it.

That’s what makes BE Impactful unique, the sense of community and the vibes that we curate WHILE doing something necessary and important for our people is what people love about it. It’s something you have to see for yourself to understand. The BE Impactful experience is what sets us apart.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a big fan of supporting black-owned businesses. So I would probably set up reservations at all the black-owned restaurants. Two of my favorite places would have to be Upper Kirby Bistro for brunch, then Urban Social in the evening. I would try and make sure we made it to Wing Wednesday at Prospect Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would dedicate my shoutout to my community. I’ve been fortunate enough to be surrounded by an amazing family, a support system of friends that feel just like family, and mentors. It would be difficult to pinpoint one person because I am just blessed with amazing people. That’s a big part of BE Impactful, I hope to create something where everyone feels the level of love and support in their endeavors. That’s the community way, that’s the BE Impactful vision. The bigger our community gets, the more and more people we can impact.
