We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Guerrero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brianna, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I grew up in a small city in Goodyear, AZ. At the time, it had a population of maybe seven thousand people. I remember everything being so empty and it did not even have a Walmart until later in the years. I always knew I wanted to see more of the world and become someone great when I got older. Although, I did grow up very fast and honestly can’t relate to most childhoods. I had to learn how to become dependable and independent growing up for my mother who was an overworked single parent. As the only granddaughter out of 11 grandchildren at the time and most of us lived under one household with my grandparents, so I spent a lot of time playing dolls alone and being crafty with trying to make my own doll clothes and recreating hair styles after being bored with them so often. That’s when I first fell in Love with creating something new and seeing transformations happen. Having coarse thick hair, I always wish I could see transformations on myself. As I got old enough, I started experimenting with different products, hair dyes, styling tools and even extensions and let me tell you I made a ton of mistakes and took a lot of time to understand my hair. Once I got ahold of it, I would always get asked if I did hair or if I could do hair for other people. Going to cosmetology school has always been in the back of my mind but as soon as I graduated high school, I jumped to working 2-3 jobs at a time to provide for myself and didn’t really get serious about it until I was 28 years old. I felt I was maybe “too old” to start but I knew that if I didn’t, I would always wonder what if so, I decided to take a chance and enroll in the middle of the pandemic to create a career for myself and I can truly say it was the best thing I ever did. You’re never too late to start what you want to do and if you’re reading this aspiring to try something new or start a new career, I encourage you to follow your heart and start your dreams. You are the master of your own Universe and with hard work you can achieve anything!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel that believing and reminding myself of my dreams gives me the push I need to stay on track and bulldoze through anything in my way. Having the right perspective is always key. If you can go through life with optimism, you can motivate yourself much more for success. Although I’m still fresh in this industry I would say being optimistic has been the most important factor behind my success. I’m also a genuine believer in having and showing gratitude. There’s always something to be grateful for no matter where you’re at in life or who you are.

Things have not always been easy for me. I’ve moved to different states and cities alone learning to depend solely on myself without anyone except my dog Betty for the majority of my 20’s.   No matter what you go through you have to still believe you are capable of more. I feel like many will see someone that appears confident and assume they have it all when it’s taken a journey to get to that point.

Stay focused! Stay optimistic even through your darkest times and always be grateful for what you DO have no matter how small. I feel that if you don’t appreciate the things you have in your life, how can you expect the universe to bless your life with more? Always appreciate and express what you’re grateful for 🙂

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ou! That’s a tough question! I’m a big homebody but I can say some of my favorite spots I’ve had fun at will definitely be Etro Nightclub, Smither Park, Bloom & Bee, Montrose area, Main Bird Chicken (is my weakness), The Post, Graffiti park. I live in the middle of Eado and would say there’s a ton of fun things to do here, also.  You can always find a combination of live music, food trucks, bars, clubs, sports, literally everything!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Starting a new business has definitely shifted keeping work-life balanced. Diving into starting up a salon and not always knowing what to expect has consumed so much of my time and head space. Luckily, I have the BEST support at home from my boyfriend/best friend to help me with things when I can’t be there and care for our 5 pets. I love you bb.  Thank you for always supporting me through ups and downs and always being my biggest hype man! I would also like to include my little brother Mathew and Cousin Jesse back home in AZ always sending me love and encouragement, and just always believing in me, thank you…I love you guys!
