Meet D’Marrea Steed | Consultant, Web Developer & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with D’Marrea Steed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi D’Marrea, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Many of the doors that have opened for me, only did so with mustard seed faith. Every leap taken has been supported by that same faith—allowing me to stay out of my own way and let things work out for the best. For all of the things that did not go as planned— it was either more abundant than imagined, or taught me valuable lessons which are worth an abundance in their own.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets my music apart from others, is the purity and definition. My art approach asks many questions before composing. One of them being, how will my kids feel about this track or how will they resonate with this message. And I don’t have any kids yet, but that same respect allows me to deliver substance that has eternality.
When one thinks of RAP music, rarely does one know what that truly breaks down into. Rhythm and Poetry. If I write a song and the music cuts off, the words should still move you.
Likewise when you think HIP-HOP.
I break it down as, Here I Present a Hero of Poverty. I’ll never forget where I come from, and this keeps me hungry.
Recently, my excitement has been from completing my second solo EP. — OMEGA. This was a follow up to my earlier EP. – ALPHA. To complete another chapter of life and finding ways to articulate, the good, bad and ugly is not an easy feat— let alone coming this far. I am far from where from where I would want to be in this industry though , so trusting the process and staying honed in on my crafts are crucial.
Many challenges faced were being on others people’s time tables, and of course the common comparisons people will make of you and your art. This forced me to want to learn more aspects of the music business and stay true to being original with everything I produce.
I learned overtime not everyone is meant to understand or even be able to fathom your vision, giving me the discernment needed to either put the right pieces in the right place to see something to the finish line or protect my energy in ways that allows me to naturally disassociate myself from anything that no longer serves my purpose.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ohh we fassho hitting up Jinya Ramen Bar and all the black owned vegan joints; Soul Food Vegan, Lindiana’s, Sunshine’s, Green Seed, and Mo’ Better Brews. For hangouts—Chess tournaments, skatepark, catching a vibe at Avant Garden or Dean’s Downtown for some stand up comedy and open mics. Also, would have to make a visit by lifestyle boutique, We The List for live DJ sets, community, collaboration and street food. Other than that — I’m in the studio.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I don’t know where to begin. I have much gratitude for every path that has crossed my own. God is the remaining constant. Nothing deserves more credit than her.
