We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Dockum and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amanda, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Being willing to set aside self-imposed limitations and explore my full potential was a challenging lesson for me to grasp. For most of my adult life before entering real estate, I focused on merely getting by and caring for my family. Once I realized that I am not defined by any limitations and can achieve whatever I set my mind to, it opened up new opportunities for growth and revealed a newfound power within myself in the business world. As my career progressed, it took me some time to accept that my success was the result of hard work, rather than luck. Now, when I look back, I find myself saying, “WOW! Look how far I’ve come.”

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the Owner and Managing Broker of Crimson Realty, located in Richmond, Texas. Since we opened our doors in January 2022, it has been a roller coaster of lessons! Transitioning from team lead to running an independent brokerage was no small feat. One of my key priorities in starting Crimson Realty was to ensure the agents feel supported. Therefore, I am very deliberate when considering new agents, making sure I have the systems, training, and availability to properly mentor them, especially if they are newly licensed. Once I reach my capacity, I focus on scaling and enhancing our systems before bringing on additional agents.

Having someone available for guidance and support is a game changer for new agents and a crucial aspect of being part of Crimson Realty. Our mission as a brokerage is to meet clients where they are in their process and provide them with the information they need to make confident and informed decisions. This mission involves a lot of hands-on training to help agents learn how to serve their clients and develop strong problem-solving skills.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The food scene here in Houston is hard to beat! Whenever someone visits from out of town, they get the full taco and margarita treatment. Gino’s Italian Joint in Richmond, Texas, serves up fantastic pizza, and Pablo’s Mexican Kitchen is another favorite spot in Richmond. Of course, I’d lose my Houstonian card if I didn’t introduce them to some authentic Texas BBQ—Truth BBQ in the Heights is one of my top choices. Additionally, catching an event at the POST Skylawn is always a fun experience for visitors.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My kids have been my biggest cheerleaders from day one. Having twins at a young age allowed them to witness my transition from caretaker to discovering my identity and finding the courage to advance my career. I wouldn’t be here without their love and support.

Another strong influence on me is the community I’ve found within real estate. This profession can be isolating, and it’s easy to feel alone in your struggles. Having supportive friendships with other agents and people who believe in lifting each other up rather than seeing each other as competitors is crucial. The Women’s Council of Realtors has been a great source of positive support and meaningful connections.
