We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Elliott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After I lost almost 100 lbs while battling Lupus and Hypothyroidism, I wanted to share what fitness and nutrition was able to do for me. I felt like who better to help women lose weight than someone who has been in their shoes. My mission is to show women how to live their a healthier, bolder life. I started Bold Body Fitness in 2019 as a side job. A few months later I was laid off from my full time corporate job and decided to pursue personal training full time.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been on both ends of the fitness spectrum. I have been overweight and lost almost 100 lbs; I also have had to build my curves. I understand my clients when they want to either lose or gain weight because I have been on both sides. I truly understand the struggles and the steps it takes to help my clients achieve their results. I am proud of Bold Body not only making it through the pandemic but also thriving through it. I saw many gyms close last March, ours in Southwest Houston was included. I opened a 1:1 only training gym in my garage during the pandemic and was fully booked almost immediately. Bold Body also adapted to the changes and went virtual with our group boot camp, which is still going strong! One of the best pieces of advice I can give to a personal trainer is ask your clients for a referral. Referrals and word of mouth are one of the best ways to expand your client base and earn more income. I want Bold Body Fitness to be known for more than just fitness. I want it to be a movement, where women are bolder, confident, healthy versions of themselves. We are the glue for our families and I want to see more women putting themselves first instead of giving themselves whatever is left over.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were in town, we would get in a great lifting session working out at one of my favorite gyms, Be Fit, in East Down, followed by a cheat meal at Tout Suite. During the evening we would go dancing and bar hopping in mid-town at Wonder Bar for cute Instagram pictures. The next evening we would venture out and go bar hopping down Washington. My favorites are Hearts, Bottles Blonde, Standard Bar and Sugar Room. Sundays are reserved for self care, so I would make sure we got pedicures at Gossip Nail in Cypress and had brunch on the water on Boardwalk in TowneLake.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so thankful for everyone that has given me an opportunity or collaborated with me. Everyone to the photographers that I work with like Rosa Nelly Photography and Myon with MM32 Photography have provided me with beautiful images for marketing purposes and social media that have helped my business. Also working with other small business owners within the fitness industry like Ashley with Giemfit, Jocelyn with AlignedFuel, both of which I am an ambassador for. These people have helped me network and get my name out there.
