We had the good fortune of connecting with Armonie Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Armonie, how do you think about risk?
I am a huge risk-taker, but I never think of it as taking risks. I always think of it as taking a leap of faith. I don’t like to be stagnant, and I feel that if I don’t take these leaps of faith, I’ll never grow. I travel solo, both domestically and internationally, and I’ve met some of the most amazing people and had some of the most incredible experiences. It has helped me grow as a person and as a creative. I have alopecia and wore a wig for over 10 years. It may not seem like a risk or a gamble to anyone from the outside looking in, but one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken was deciding to love myself enough to not be ashamed of my biggest insecurity. That is the biggest and best leap I’ve ever taken. I’ve never felt more beautiful and more alive than I do today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is deeply personal and revolves around the themes of self-love, self-care, and authenticity. As someone who has faced significant challenges due to alopecia, I channel my experiences into my creative work to inspire and empower others. I create self-care journals, poetry, and fashion content, all aimed at helping women in their embrace their insecurities and live with confidence.

What truly sets me apart is its authenticity and relatability. I don’t just create content; I share my journey and vulnerabilities. My self-care journal, “Dating Me,” is a prime example. It’s designed specifically for women, incorporating elements like self-care dates, affirmations, gratitude exercises, and quotes by powerful Black women. My goal is to provide a unique and supportive space for women to explore self-love and self-care.

I am most proud of the impact my work has had on others. Hearing from women who have found strength and confidence through my story is incredibly fulfilling. I’m excited about continuing to grow my platform and reach more women who can benefit from my message of self-love and empowerment.

The biggest challenge was overcoming my own insecurities and fears. Before March of 2024, I couldn’t even look in the mirror bald without feeling disgusted. I wouldn’t even allow my mom to see me bald most days. It took time, inner work and a whole lot of prayer to accept myself as I am. Creating the journal was a therapeutic process that helped me heal and grow. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the power of vulnerability. Sharing my story openly has allowed me to connect with others on a deeper level. I’ve also learned the value of persistence and staying true to my vision, even when faced with obstacles. Today, I can’t get myself out of the mirror! I’m too cute!

I want the world to know that self-love and self-care are transformative. My brand and my story are about helping women overcome their insecurities and embrace their true selves. Whether through my self-care journal, fashion content, or personal stories, my mission is to inspire others to choose and love themselves every day. My journey has taught me that we all have the strength to overcome challenges and live authentically, and I am dedicated to sharing that message with the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My friend is actually coming next week , and we have a whole list of things planned! We’re going to have a picnic in Buffalo Bayou, enjoying nature and each other’s company. We’ll also ride scooters around Discovery Green. I can’t wait to take her to ChòpnBlok, one of my favorite places to eat in Houston, located at POST Houston.
Since we’re both picture girlies, we’ll definitely visit the Color Factory and find a nice pottery class. I’ve been dying to take her to a poetry slam, but I’m worried we might run out of time. For the night scene, I like super chill vibes, so we’ll more than likely end up at The Flat at and Off the Record.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe all of my successes to my mother. She deserves all her flowers. She has been my biggest supporter throughout my entire life, encouraging me through anything I’ve ever set my heart on. She has always been right behind me, putting thousands of dollars into things I only pursued for a week or never doubting a dream that came out of my mouth. She’s always been steadfast in her support. When all my hair first started falling out, my mom shaved her whole head so I could understand that hair didn’t define me. I didn’t understand it then, but she was teaching me a beautiful lesson. She’s the best mom a girl could ask for.
