We had the good fortune of connecting with Bernika Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bernika, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I have several quotes and affirmations that I love to keep me motivated. This particular inspirational quote is my favorite. Mary Anne Radmacher once said “Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day that says I’ll try again tomorrow.” When I read this quote over ten years ago it has stuck with me ever since. It means motivation, clarity, re-direction, focus, and hope. What I like most about this quote is courage doesn’t roar every day, and we can give ourselves permission to start over at any time we please.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always wanted to start a blog for some years now. I wasn’t sure in the beginning what I was going to share. I knew I could share some experiences I’ve learned over the years. I love to travel, foodie at heart, and anything fashion I’m all in. The thought came up again last year to start a blog, and I was thinking why not. I’m a full-time professional by day and dealing with the pandemic last year, gave me the push I needed to layout my plan. Last October, I started my Fashion & Lifestyle Blog-BeFancyAnyway.
I would say what sets me apart from others would be the encouragement, experiences, and style that I share with women over 40. I don’t consider myself the average blogger and honestly thought it was more of the younger women writing blogs. After reading a few blogs of women over 40, I then realized we have a voice that needs to be heard. I’m excited about the opportunity to inspire women to go after their passion in life without a second thought. Start creating the life you’ve always wanted and do it in style!
Starting a blog is not easy. It sounds easy but anyone that has started a blog, knows the work you must dedicate to getting your blog up and running. I had to set goals before I ever published my first post. I wrote down what theme I wanted, who I would use for hosting my site, and coming up with a name for the blog. I’ve had my blog for a year now and I’m still learning new things all the time. I’m a part-time blogger so I’ve learned that I need to schedule my posts. Between work and other social organizations I’m involved in I realized I needed a blogging schedule. Researching your blog topic is a must because you want to stay on topic and share what you know with your readers. Lastly, find ways to stay motivated. You will need to be motivated to continue to pour into your blog.
I want my readers to know that when you visit my blog that you leave with a sense of inspiration and encouragement. I’m the everyday girl that loves fashion, travel, iced coffee, and a foodie. My goal is to continue to be a source to share all things that I know women will find helpful. I’m super excited to be able to create and hopefully inspire the next woman. Remember: Be YOU, Be INSPIRED, and BEFANCYANYWAY!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Welcome to Houston! Houston, we have a problem! We’re about to take on this city in 5,4,3,2,1! It’s so many restaurants to eat around the city, now add food trucks and food halls to that list. I would take her to a few of my favorite spots. Now’s the time to explore as well. These are places we would visit throughout the week in no particular order. Dinner or just cocktails at Eddie V’s, Lucille’s, Bisou, Oporto Fooding House & Wine, Olive & Twist, Thirteen, or Trez Art and Wine Bar. For Brunch will check out Breakfast Klub, Taste Bar & Kitchen, or Snooze. After we’ve eaten brunch, now it’s time to do a little shopping. Visit a few local boutiques like Melodrama Boutique, Kosmios, Hemline, Tresor Cache Boutique, and Crossroads Trading. Can’t forget a visit to the Galleria and City Centre. For some great views of downtown with green space, Eleanor Tinsley Park would be a hang-out for a picnic in the park or just people watch. I’m always in support of any local festivals, concerts, small business pop ups that are culturally rich and help the local community. My bestie will love the experience she’s had and be wanting to come back again because one week isn’t enough.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a special shoutout to my mother and bestie Nicole! My bestie for listening to me tell her on several occasions, I want to start a blog. My words to her, I’m thinking about starting a fashion blog. My mother for her sense of style that has influenced me since I was a little girl. I must give a shoutout to the Over4o Fashion & Lifestyle Bloggers/Influencers that are representing on a daily basis! Lastly, a shoutout to my community on IG and Facebook. We’re a small community but I appreciate you interacting with me as we slowly get to know each other. You guys are the best!
