We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Jernigan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of the BeeStiing brand is my willingness to be vulnerable enough to share different layers of myself. I show up every day and share what it looks like good or bad. There’s a lot of power in being vulnerable enough to share your journey and it makes you more relatable. I also attribute my success to being okay with not knowing everything and being willing to learn!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a lifestyle and cocktail influencer/content creator who shares the balance of a luxury aesthetic. My goal is to create content that makes people FEEL something. Whether that feeling is self-love, reflective, inspired, or buzzed from one of my cocktails, I want to create a space where it’s okay to be you while striving for more (whatever that may look like for you).
By day, I’ve been a healthcare informatics consultant for 9 years and absolutely love it. Like content creation, I somewhat fell into this career. I remember scrolling Instagram and seeing someone from college constantly traveling from work. Asked what she did and I’d moved to Kansas City was working in hospital laboratories about 4 months later. 9 years later, I’ve learned A LOT on the fly, had multiple clients across the country, and made several life-long connections. It’s been a long journey and wasn’t always easy, but I’m REALLY good at it. It’s molded me into who I am.
What’s interesting I had no idea this job role existed. Nobody ever knows what it is that I do and I learned that’s part of why I love it. It’s impossible for hospitals and clinics to function without laboratories, yet they’re very rarely seen. That’s the work I like to do…make a huge impact on people without the need to be at the forefront.
I feel the same about being an influencer. I never had aspirations to become an influencer. I actually didn’t realize I could take my organic engagement on Instagram and turn it into a source of income. But at the end of the day, I care less about being the focus but more about the impact I leave on people.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Surprisingly, I always cringe a little when someone is visiting Houston and requests recommendations. I’m such a homebody, that I feel like a visitor myself at times. But I love a great cocktail bar that’s intimate enough to have a conversation (H Bar in the Post Oak Hotel). If it’s a Tuesday, we’d have to swing by Pistoleros for tacos and tequila. It’s where I met my fiance and also just a really chill spot that isn’t pretentious. Spas are a dime a dozen, but the spa in the Post Oak Hotel is second to none. I’m obsessed with cupcakes, so I’d definitely swing by Celebrity Cupcakes in Rice Village.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Several people have contributed to my success. God first! I wouldn’t be on this journey if it weren’t for Courtney Brand Agbetola. I joined her Mentee Masterclass and it’s been extremely helpful. I had no idea what I was doing (sometimes I feel like I still don’t), but she’s been a great mentor!
My fiancè is very supportive of my career as a healthcare informatics consultant and content creator. Really anything I do! I have crazy ideas that he doesn’t always understand, but he respects it and is along for the ride. Sometimes he’s my photographer/videographer as well.
And of course, my followers that I call my cousins! Absolutely wouldn’t be anywhere without them
