We had the good fortune of connecting with Connie “Truluxx” Island and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Connie “Truluxx”, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Cutting off dead weight was a very important yet bittersweet decision. We tend to hold on to things and environments that no longer attributes to our growth. Once I realized the things I outgrew the more I could focus on the bigger picture which was my brand, and the more I could focus on my brand the more growth & achievements began to flourish. As small as it sounds it was one of my biggest contributions I could put into my business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Truluxx is a brand , that has the ability to service in the beauty industry , retail industry, & as well women empowerment. I decided not to limit my capabilities as an entrepreneur & I’m mostly proud of my new gem TheClothenection which is dedicated around high brand fashion for a more reasonable price. I actually launched TheClothnetion with expectations of it moving slow especially with COVID-19 unexpectedly happening around he same time. However my expectations went out the window as I seen business grow month after month, I’m even more excited to see where TheClothnection will be within a year as I plan to bring more to the business in the near future. Dedication & staying motivated got me to where I am today business wise, & no matter how good or easy it may look its definitely a rollercoaster , you have ups ,downs, success & failures along the way but you have to keep going. It’s a challenge sometimes you may have to sit it out a few days , start completely over and even give yourself a mental break but ALWAYS remember why you started. Did you get there ? If not , GET THERE. Its kind of like myself motivation. I’ve learned over the past 4 years that you get what you put into brand, if you don’t take yourself serious, what you do serious & who you are to other serious how do you expect other to do the same. I want the World and most importantly Women to know that you are able, I had 2 children before I could sit down and really think what I wanted for myself. It took for me to lose everything in order for me to gain insight on building my brand. I strive to be better then who I was the day before ,Everyday without feeling the need to compete with others around me. Whats for you will always be for you & my vision is way more bigger then where I am so my story is still being written.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Breakfast Klub would be first on my list , if you’ve ever doubted chicken for breakfast they can change that for you. Premium Outlet Mall in Cypress for a little retail therapy and a chilled environment Race 21 , Sky diving, paint balling for some spontaneous good sport fun anywhere in midtown for some good relax adult fun
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I come from a community that has supported me from Day 1 as a whole. You may know the community as “Missouri city” but as a “Mo-citizen” we know it as “MO-CITY”.(laughing) Seriously, There are so many people from my community that has pushed & motivated me to keep doing things , wether it was making a purchase, referring others to me , inviting me out to network and/ or just posting socially letting me know they support me. I’m forever thankful because it all started there in that same community for me from my vision down to my very first purchase in 2016. On the days that I “feel” like throwing in the towel I look back at all the ones who genuinely know me and are rooting for me. They DESERVE that RESPECT
