Meet Danessa Yaschuk | Owner & Master Beekeeper

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danessa Yaschuk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danessa, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factors behind our success is our hard work, dedication, perseverance, adaptability and willingness to continue to learn and grow. Behind every successful business, there is a lot of unsuccessful days! Especially in a beekeeping business! So much goes on behind the scenes at SweetNes Honey Apiaries & Beetique. We are not just boutique owners, we are beekeepers first! We manage hundreds of honeybee colonies all year round. We are proud of what we do and it shows in the products that we produce from our own beehives!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
SweetNes Honey Apiaries and Beetique started off as a childhood honey bee fascination. I was gifted the cutest little amber-colored puppy at 5 years old and I immediately named her Honey! What are the odds! At 8 years old I began catching and releasing bees in my front yard. Unbeknownst that one day bees and beekeeping would become such a significant part of my life. I had even come up with the name SweetNes! Although at the time, I said that it was going to be the name of my boat when I grew up! In 2014 I started doing research into beekeeping and by 2015 I set up my own beehives and delved further into the art of keeping bees. SweetNes Honey Apiaries & Beetique was born! A month or so later I began performing bee removals in our community, to assist those who were in need of bee removal services. This boosted not only our beehive numbers but also gave us more brand exposure to the community. We, my husband and I started and managed the Sienna Community Farmers Market and sold our honey there for a few years, before moving to Needville, Texas. After moving to Needville, we grew our beekeeping operation exponentially! We keep busy managing our multiple apiaries, our storefront, keeping our shelves stocked at the local HEB stores that we are in, and many other retailers. We enjoy sharing what we love and teaching honey bee education and beekeeping classes at schools, conferences, to senior assisted living, home school groups, boy and girl scouts and other events.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had some guest coming to visit, I am sure to bring them to Needville, Texas to visit SweetNes Honey Beetique! SweetNes Honey Beetique is a Honey & Beekeeping boutique store that is all things honey and bees! We not only carry our raw local honey products, hand-poured beeswax candles, fresh cut honey comb, honey mead (or honey wine), honey candies, cosmetics and even home decor! We are an authorized Mann Lake Beekeeping Supply dealer. We carry all the equipment to get you started in beekeeping! Boxes, frames, hive tools, smokers, beekeeping suits and gloves. We even sell bees! We want our visitors to learn about our beloved honey bees, enjoy our many varieties of honey and sip a little honey wine! Next you can go next door to Saylor Grace Boutique and buy a new outfit for the whole family! Then take the family down to the Jay Cafe for the best country cooked meal and for a slice of their famous homemade pies! All right here in Needville, Texas!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to ShoutOut to the KSGR – Sugar Land Regional Airport who opened up their airport property to house multiple honeybee colonies that are managed by SweetNes Honey Apiaries & Beetique. KSGR – Sugar Land Regional Airport had some undeveloped land and were wanting to create a safe haven for our local pollinators. The property is filled with native wildflowers and pollinators including honeybees!
