We had the good fortune of connecting with Deborah Elias, CSEP, CMP, CIS and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deborah, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I have had my very successful event planning company for over 22 years and am fiercely protective of my brand and image. I think the reason it is so successful is because of the high level of service, product and creativity I bring to every event, no matter how big or small. I love planning events and love every time I get to be creative or get to work with clients that motivate me to excellence, which is often.Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Twenty two years ago when I started my event planning business Elias Events, that particular industry did not exist, well in the way that it does now. There wasn’t degree plans or reality shows or the popularity it has garnered, especially in the past 10 years. When I started, I was at a cross roads in life, I new that I didn’t want to become a doctor (even after the many years of study and work dedicated to that effort) and was searching for something that would ignite a new passion in me. I was chairman of senior prom in high school and freshman dance in college and LOVED planning things. I took a very big chance and decided to start my own business, initially only planning weddings. Since then, I have planned hundreds of amazing weddings, but also events of all types in locations across the world. I am extremely passionate about the industry and speak frequently on new trends and ideas related to innovations in the industry.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My colleagues Laurette Veres owner of the Houston Bridal Extravaganza, Sonia Soto, Tracy Boulware with Deer Lake Lodge and the Grand Hall, Victoria Barclay owner of Talent agency Best Entertainers and Matthew Finnan, Director of Catering at the Hilton Americas Houston.
