We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Figueira and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always believed that we carry a responsibility to pursue the best version of ourselves. For me, that journey led to starting my own business. Fitness has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, I played sports from a very young age and have always enjoyed staying active. After spending several years consistently in the gym, I noticed an unmet need. There were two products I used frequently — workout gloves and lifting straps — that became inconvenient and uncomfortable when used together. That frustration sparked an idea: why wasn’t there a single product that combined both?

At the time, I was deeply focused on building something of my own within the fitness industry, a space that truly reflects my passion and lifestyle. It became clear that this idea was worth pursuing — a product that didn’t yet exist and could genuinely solve a problem for many athletes and gym-goers.

In 2023, I began designing what would become my innovation: Workout Gloves with Integrated Lifting Straps. I developed the first prototype and partnered with a manufacturer to refine the design. After multiple iterations, we created a product that seamlessly merged both functions into one comfortable, high-quality solution. From there, I launched my company, Fiters — a name inspired by the idea of becoming “fitter” and a fusion of my last names, Figueira and Tersek (Fi-ters).

The entire journey has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding. I am deeply proud of the company and product I have built. Today, I continue to sell my gloves while working to grow the business to the next level. My goal is to keep innovating in the workout equipment space and deliver high-quality products that support people at every stage of their fitness journey.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business was born from both passion and personal experience. Fitness has always been a central part of my life. I grew up playing sports, later transitioned into endurance racing and triathlons, and spent countless hours in the gym. Through that journey, I noticed a simple but frustrating problem: the discomfort of using workout gloves and lifting straps together. That inconvenience sparked the idea to create a single product that combined both functions into one. What started as a personal solution turned into my company, Fiters, and my first product, workout gloves with integrated lifting straps.

What sets my brand apart is that it was created by an athlete for athletes. Every design decision came from real training experience, not just theory. I am most proud of the fact that this product did not exist before and that I was able to bring an original idea to life through multiple prototypes, manufacturer negotiations, testing, and refinement until it truly worked the way I envisioned. Seeing people use something I created to improve their workouts is incredibly rewarding.

The business journey was far from easy. Building a product from scratch required long hours, personal savings, constant problem solving, and a lot of patience. There were moments of doubt, delays, and challenges that did not go as planned. But resilience and dedication carried me through. Entrepreneurship is a long process that demands time, energy, and financial investment, and you have to be willing to keep moving forward even when results are not immediate. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that self doubt is normal, but it does not define your capabilities. We are often capable of much more than we think when we truly commit.

More than anything, I want my brand and story to inspire others. I want people to know that persistence matters, that setbacks are part of growth, and that innovation can come from everyday frustrations. I am proud to be a young entrepreneur, an athlete, and a professional who is actively building something meaningful. My goal is not only to grow a successful fitness company, but to positively impact people and show that we are capable of doing hard things, balancing multiple roles, and turning ideas into reality when we put our minds and hearts into it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston has so much to offer because it’s such a diverse and energetic city. If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d plan a mix of outdoors, fitness, and great food, because that’s truly how I enjoy the city myself.

I love starting with the outdoors. Hermann Park is a must for a long walk, paddle boating, or just relaxing by the water, and Buffalo Bayou Park is perfect for running, biking, or catching a sunset with skyline views. Since fitness is a big part of my life, I would definitely take them to Alphaland for a workout. It’s an incredible gym experience and a fun place to train even if you’re just visiting.

For a change of scenery, I’d drive up to The Woodlands. The Waterway and River Walk area is beautiful, very walkable, and has a great atmosphere both during the day and at night. You can pair that with a stop at The Woodlands Mall for shopping or coffee.

Food wise, Houston is amazing because you can experience so many cultures in one city. Some of my favorite spots would be North Italia for a nicer dinner with great pasta, Hopdoddy Burger Bar for a casual but high-quality burger, and Oporto Fooding House & Wine because it connects with my Portuguese roots and always brings me joy. Since I’m Venezuelan, I would absolutely include an authentic Venezuelan restaurant as well. Houston has several great options for arepas and traditional dishes, and sharing that part of my culture is always special.

Overall, my Houston itinerary would be a balance of movement, good food, and pretty places to walk and talk. It’s a city where you can work out in world-class gyms in the morning, explore parks in the afternoon, and end the day with incredible international cuisine.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would dedicate my shoutout to all of the coaches who have been part of my fitness journey. From my early soccer days to my Ironman training, each coach has played a meaningful role in shaping my discipline, resilience, and mindset. Their guidance, belief in my potential, and constant encouragement pushed me to grow not only as an athlete but also as a person. The lessons they taught me go far beyond sport — they instilled habits, confidence, and work ethic that I carry into every area of my life and business today.
