We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika O’Brien and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erika, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I knew I always wanted to create my own business and offer something I loved. I have always loved earrings but found it hard to buy different styles that were good quality but not expensive. I decided I wanted to create many different styles of jewelry at an affordable price for people my age to be able to buy. I started researching wholesalers and educating myself on jewelry quality and it started from there!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am really proud of how far I have come since the beginning when I started in March 2020. I learned how to utilize social media to grow my brand, and I have successfully gained 1000s of followers on platforms that have translated into lots of sales and amazing relationships with customers. I wouldn’t say it was hard to grow my business because it is genuinely something I enjoy and I consider it fun. It required a lot of patience and consistent work to grow my audience. There are always times where I may not get any orders but I continue to put out content and engage with my audience to hopefully attract new potential customers. I learned that is it so important to view things from the customer’s view, and to do everything you can to give them the best service and make them want to come back to them. I think my jewelry is fairly priced, trendy and has lots of options, but I also pride myself on giving the best customer service and fixing any issues.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston definitely has the best food! I say hitting up Chinatown is a must, I love Honey Pig for kbbq, Two Hands Korean corn dogs, and Bae for soft serve. If you want something fancy MAD serves tapas and has a really cool vibe. Wonderbar is a cool bar with lots of cute photo ops. If you’re looking for activities, I love the Museum of Fine Arts (free on Thursday), as well as the Menil Collection and Contemporary Arts Museum which is free! Montrose has a lot of cute walls, thrift shops and little cafes/coffee shops. If you love a good shopping deal, Katy Mills Mall has a lot of outlets with good prices.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friends and family for helping me pack orders when I was busy, listen to my problems and give me advice and ideas when I felt lost
