We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Degeyter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
Some say you need a giant social media following to be successful. I have found that it is the quality of your follower and your content that determines success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always loved a good challenge, so making macarons (and subsequent desserts) was right up interest-alley. While recipe developing, decorating, and experimenting is fun, it sure isn’t easy most days! On the toughest days, with the toughest demands, I like to remember that the basis of what we create is for celebrating life’s best moments, and whatever we can do to help people celebrate makes it all worth it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a really great friend were to come visit, we’d start most days at French Press brunch (their downtown location) or Social Southern Table. To grab a new outfit we’d definitely stop in at our favorites MAVEN Womenswear and Swoon, before grabbing coffee, macarons, and a new book at Beausoleil Books in Downtown Lafayette. Favorite afternoon spot would be shopping at Graze Acadiana on the Boulevard for fresh charcuterie and oil tasting.
Favorite lunch spots include Central Pizza, Rok-n-Sake, and Mercy Kitchen – and lunchtime dessert at Carpe Diem Cafe and Wine Bar.
Dinner and drinks are a must (and our ABSOLUTE favorite) – you’ll always find us at Marcello’s Wine Cafe, Vestal (downtown) La Fonda’s, Charley G’s, Palmyre in River Ranch, or back to Beausoleil’s Wine Bar: The Whisper Room.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Always the first on my thank you list is my mother, Debbie Degeyter. Quickly followed by all of the women who came before me who weren’t afraid of a challenge, specifically Mandy Osgood from Graze Acadiana, Caitlin Gossen from Hark Creative Co., and all the leading ladies in my bookclub, A Novel Bunch.
