Meet Jacquie “ooh” Burrell | Glow Architect

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacquie “ooh” Burrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacquie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My business actually started from an idea that my two daughters, Layla and Mya had in 2012. Layla and Mya came to me one night and told me that they wanted to start a business. They were 5 and 10-yrs old at the time, so when they told me that they wanted to start a business, they had my full attention. They had their business plan scribbled on a notebook piece of paper and you should have seen the look on their faces, they were serious. How could I say no, right?

Here I am a single mom going through a divorce and starting a business with my daughters! You would have thought I would have said, “girls lets wait a little while before we start, okay”, NOT! I didn’t think twice about it! I was all in!

Their idea was to create all natural skincare products. Our first two products consisted of a sugar scrub and body mist. Why did they pick bath products? Great question! They loved bath and body products. We are bath and body product junkies!

I had no idea what it would cost to do this business I just said yes and jumped in! I guess you could say we were risk takers! I started cutting back on things in order to make this business happen. I stopped going to the nail salon, going to my hair stylist, discontinued our cable service and only used wifi, took my lunch to work everyday and used coupons.. These were things I should have in actuality been doing all along. I put every extra dime I had into the business. I wore many hats in the business such as: graphic designer, website creator, marketing guru, manufacturer, distributor, shipment manager and whatever needed to get done.

During the process of learning the business, I also learned the benefits of natural bath products. Boy, I felt like I had struck gold! You see my daughters had really bad eczema. We had been to multiple physicians and all of them wanted to prescribed steroids in addition to topicals which were filled with toxins. I was not having it! So, as I was researching how to make our sugar scrubs I was learning about all of the benefits of essential oils and herbs in products! I was in “all natural heaven!” I took classes to learn more in order to provide the best quality products possible. We were in business!

We were in business for 8-yrs. We had created more than 5 products during this time. Not only were the girls creating amazing skincare products that brought results to many; they also became authors, panelists, keynote speakers, appeared in major publications such as gracing the front cover of the business section in the Houston Chronicle and numerous other publications.

August 2019, my daughters decided they wanted to do other ventures and as always I was on board. What was going to happen to their business? We were going to keep it! We had loyal customers who were purchasing from us on a regular. Our product line had expanded to facial cleansers, moisturizers and body butters. We decided that I would continue the business and rebrand. I did just that. I again took classes to learn more and be more target specific. I wanted to create products that I personally formulated because it was vitally important to me that my formulas delivered results.

I created the Glow Collection by Jacquie ooh which consists of our amazing, hydrating, anti-aging and moisturizing facial skincare products: Cleanser, Toner, Serum and Moisturizer. We also have a Cuticle Serum, Beard Serum and our top selling Calming Butter.

All of our products are organic. We use certified organic ingredients. Absolutely no preservatives or toxins. Our products are handcrafted in our glow kitchen. We are committed to honoring the integrity of each plant and raw ingredient that finds its way into our formulas. We use high quality glass bottles and jars. We do not use any plastics, because plastic and oils are a volatile combination. Over time, plastic will degrade in the presence of oil and integrate into a formula, and ultimately into your skin and organs. Our goal is for you to have an experience with our products. We want you to feel something when you pick up a bottle and enter your skincare ritual.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our small business is very unique in the sense that our products are made in small batches, handcrafted and our heart is in every bottle and jar. We take pride in the fact that we produce quality products. We have the expertise and experience. We formulate each and every product. No internet recipes happening in our glow kitchen.We are passionate about producing a product that really produces results.

We are super excited that we are growing and entering into the retail arena. Our skincare products are now gracing the shelves at the Tarrytown Pharmacy in Austin, TX. And yes, you can still purchase our products on our online store at www.jacquieooh.com. We ship worldwide.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of our favorite things to do is to take a bike ride along Lady Bird Lake in Austin, TX. We love the outdoors, the fresh air, sun and listening to the chirping of the birds. Our favorite eatery for brunch is First Watch and Waltons Fancy and Staple:)! And you can never go wrong with dinner at Fixe Southern House!

I would not be where I am today without the support of my family and friends! My business is truly a family business! My parents, Robert and Carolyn Burrell; my sisters, Brenda and Jennifer; my brother, Christopher; my sons, Jonathan and Trey and last but certainly not least, my daughters, Layla and Mya. Without their support I could not have done it! They were my testers, customers, financial backers, encouragers, prayer intercessors, you name it they did it!
