We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Fitness has always been a huge part of my life. Starting with sports when I was younger (elementary school), through college, and all the way into adult life. There became a time in my life where I was “content” in the job I had, but felt like something was missing. Fitness had left my life during that time, but came back in a big way, when I realized “life” happened and I had gained quite a bit of unwanted weight!
So I dove back into fitness, fell in love in a whole new way, got certified and decided THIS, is what I want to do with my life!
I took the necessary steps and a year later was training group fitness with Camp Gladiator full time!
What should our readers know about your business?
I do group training with a company called camp Gladiator. Within that company I am a franchise owner. I run outdoor and now virtual bootcamps to people in the Spring Branch (Houston) area and all over the world! I also have my own LLC, which is iamjessfit. That is my personal training business. Within that business, I do one on one training in person AND virtually. I also recently passed my certification to be a nutrition coach. So I am super excited to start mentoring people on not only being physically fit, but making good eating decisions as well!
Was it easy? Absolutely not! haha But would I change it? NEVER! The hustle and the grind is what has brought me to this place in my life. I have flexibility in my schedule to travel, see family and just enjoy life all while still running my own business.
So many lessons have been learned. Mistakes made. But it’s all apart of the process. No one is going to do it for you. No one is going to sit there and constantly pat you on the back and tell you good job. You have to get out there and work and yes at times pat your own self on the back, just to remind yourself that you’re a BOSS, and you can do this!!
What’s the take away? YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU WANT IN THIS WORLD! Decide what your passion is. You know that thing that wakes you every morning. That thing that you want to do day in and day out – and PURSUE IT!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is a ton of fun art and murals in Houston. You just have to drive around and find them! Great for photo ops! The nightlight is popping! There is a different vibe for everyone, depending on the part of town you end up in.
I love good music and good food (especially brunch haha)! Some places I would choose for that vibe would be: Cru, Phil & Derek’s, or Seaside.
For something more lowkey – Kulture is amazing and they usually have live music, which you can’t beat. I’ll also never turn down brunch or Happy Hour at Cyclone Anaya’s. haha!
I know there is so much more and many amazing food spots that I missed, but we can’t talk about this all day! haha
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ohh Wow!! I have a few people and organizations I could shout out! So here we go: Sharon Ogg – for seeing my application online, calling me and talking to me for like an hour. After that call I knew Fitness and Camp Gladiator was where I was being called to be! Without you, I’m not sure if I would have gotten into fitness full time, or became the business owner that I am today!
Camp Gladiator – for giving me the opportunity to quit my “day job”, and make personal training my career.
Haley Poinsette – for being the business partner, friend, and roommate I needed! You are the best! We have been through so many seasons of life together, and can’t wait to jump into the next one with ya!
There are soooo many others, and they know who they are. I love ya’ll!
