We had the good fortune of connecting with Johnedra Walls and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Johnedra, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
Be the best you can be as soon as you can be cause all we have is time but time waits on no one!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What sets me apart is I’m a African American single woman business owner I come from poverty, I was stereotyped to not be anything. I raised 3 children by myself whom are high school graduates and are very successful in their careers. I grew up with no utilities, not knowing when my next meal, rodents, drug addicts and drug dealers. I let my past be my stepstool to my success
I want to help others who may have struggled or struggling a start. Let this be the beginning to the rest of your life, your stepping stone to a néw beginning. I learned along the way it’s no time for tears or a pity party, you can’t worry about who there for you or cry about what you don’t have. You have to pick yourself up and try , if you fail try again. Keep trying until you get it right!! If plan A don’t work you have all the other letters of the alphabet. Don’t give up on you !!!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Marriott Marquis is the nicest hotel in the middle of downtown with a lazy river. Food : Pewees by Lincoln City Park
Burns Bbq on Depreist
Shrimp Island on Antoine
Greasy Spoon on Cypress Station
Those are some of my favorite places to eat.
Hang out in midtown, montrose, downtown if you like to bar hop.
I don’t drink alcohol or go to bars so I can’t suggest any drinks.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost to the man above my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ which is my help and strength. I quote the scripture daily, “ the race is not for the swift nor the strong but to whom endured to the end.” That scripture gave me hope because it means you don’t have to be the strongest not the fastest as long as you finish!!! I finished!! Shout out to my grandmother Bennie Lee who always told me to prove everyone wrong, to keep pushing until I’m tired and don’t stop until I get what I want. May she R.I.P. !! Shout out to my children whom the school is named after (I) Ishmael, (D) Destiny, (C) Corinthian whom inspired me to never give up and lead by example. These three are whom I do it for and deserve all the credit.
