We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joshua, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Houston gardens a community located off of homestead road. I must say staying in that area we seen a lot growing up, from broken homes, drugs, violence, poverty, and many other things. I was blessed to grow up with my parents who worked hard for everything they had and provided for us. I always told myself that I wanted to be something in life so that i can change my surroundings, help people in need, and create opportunities for people who have been counted out! My humble beginnings molded me to have the drive I have today! That’s why I’m able to handle obstacles in stride with a smile on my face because i know it could be worse!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My brand and Business i feel is like no other because I look at BBQing and cooking as a way to bring everyone together through the love of food! No matter your ethnicity, race, color, gender, we are all connected by one thing, and that’s the love of great food! That’s why I always strive to make the best product I can!
What I’m most excited about is the process and the struggles I overcame to get me where I am today. Most Of all I’m excited about the direct Double G’z Eats is headed in and the opportunities I’m looking to have in the near future!
How I got where I am professionally was one of my greatest struggles. Just being transparent! I honestly jumped out there cooking because that’s what I love to do. But a few people help me tailor my professionalism along the way. My wife helped me get more organized lol not have stuff all over the place and in dis function. My mom helped me with my presentation and customer service , Pretty Plates lol i can still hear that! My pops help with start with the love of BBQing . Jeremy helped me get the legal part of the business today her in a process manner, LLC, insurance, all of those things that’s you need to be a professional and not just a cook. Kevin helped me with the social media and branding part of Double G’z! Doing things to catch people attention through graphics and wording! So yes I’ve had a lot of help getting to where I’m at today! It wasn’t easy but it was definitely worth it!
Some lessons I’ve learned along the way is that, you will face adversity. It’s not about the setback but it’s all about the comeback. I’ve learned that customer service is very essential when your in business. Presentation is paramount, and that everyone isn’t going to root for you! Don’t be discouraged just remember everyone isn’t supposed to go with you in your next levels of life! Most of all, always be humble about your accomplishments never forget how you started and don’t lose sight on where you are headed!
I want the world to know that Double G’z Eats is a place where not only you can get great BBQ, but it’s a place where everyone is welcome to come and have a great experience through the love of food! We strive to make everyone feel
Like they are apart! And that’s the beauty of food. No matter what we look like, believe in, once you take that first bite and smile we are all connected through great food!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Lol uhhh I’m really not the night life type I’m more of a outdoors man but if they come too Houston i would tell them to check out Double G’z eats lol. But for a good brunch I’ll go to Taste bar and kitchen ( one of my favs) then i would tell them to check out midtown there are lot of nice bars and hang outs there. If they want to be outdoors I’ll tell them to take a trip to Galveston and visit the beach and also get a chance to fish in the Gulf! If they want to do some dirty fun I’ll tell them to take a trip down highway 90 and go muddying at extreme outdoor and beach in Crosby (about 20mins from Houston). For a nice dinner I’ll tell them to check out lucilles. Or they can coming fishing with chef josh! Lol
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to God without him i wouldn’t have be where i am today! my grandfather Gilbert James! He’s the engine behind this business, hence the name Double G’z which means (Gilbert’s Grandson). My wife she’s been with me every step of the way! The long nights prepping, sacrificing time home with her and our bundle of joy, and her understanding that what I’m doing is to better our future! Also my mom, pops, grandmother and everyone that has helped Double G’z thus far. Last my not least my brother hood circle Jeremy and Kevin. These guys have always been pushing me even when I didn’t want to be pushed! We fall out lol but it’s all love. It’s amazing to have brothers that hold you accountable and want you to succeed.
