We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathleen Tolbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kathleen, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I am a parent of two now! As a single mother I towed my daughter to events and performances by necessity that exposed her to the perseverance needed to navigate dreams of stardom or entrepreneurship. I believe this enabled her to witness first hand seeing a vision to manifestation. My desire to create timeless literary work is rooted in leaving a footprint that can be revisited and shared for generations to come. I hope my children will pursue their passions with an equal tenacity.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a published author, performance poet and creative content creator. I tell stories using poetry and spoken word to bring light to social issues and empower. I am most proud of my ability to tell the stories of others. Most recently, the love stories of numerous couples preparing to wed. The experience set the ground work for my latest body of work; The Love Series Compilation now available on Audible, Apple Books and itunes! I have been on this journey nearly half my life. Creating longevity is never easy. I still struggle with insecurity about recognition, compensation and popularity. Overall, I want the world to mention my name amongst the best writers to ever lay their thoughts and hearts on the table for all to see and admire the vulnerability and courage it takes to be that kind of artist.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love to shop, I would take a visitor to the best malls and outlets around the city. Because of the preferred weather, any place with a patio and good food is worth a try. One of my favorite complexes is CityCentre. A family friendly environment with something for everyone.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In my current season, my husband deserves credit for his support and encouragement both personally and professionally. It was by his advise I launched my website and Youtube channel and survived a tough season of illness and grief.
XO to Rodney Tolbert
