We had the good fortune of connecting with Shayla Atkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shayla, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I love this question because one I am a Libra and everything in my life has to harmonize and this idea of work life balance has definitely been an evolution for me. At one point of time, I was the superwoman. I would proudly put that “S” on my chest and was on a mission to solve everyone’s problems, work crazy hours to climb the corporate ladder, be everything to everyone and have no boundaries in place.

That has completely changed! I now prioritize my rest and have shifted my mindset from being busy to being productive! This mindset has allowed me to accomplish more goals and not sacrifice any of my dreams.  I have taken pride in curating a life of abundance, productivity, love and positive energy. I am a stickler about my schedule LOL. My family and friends laugh at me about it, but yes we need to schedule a trip to mall or out to eat!

As women, we have to understand there will never be a perfect balance between the two. One will take priority at times but they still harmonize beautifully together.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

I am the Founder and CEO of the Solo 2 CEO Academy where we elevate high achieving women from SOLOpreneurs to CEOs of authentic, profitable and sustainable companies! I am excited about this mission to narrow the wealth equity gap for women and people of color. Women entrepreneurs is the fastest growing group, however diverse business owners struggle after the 18 month mark and over 65% of women are classified as Solopreneurs and don’t scale their business to become a CEO.

Entrepreneurship is exciting but hard. I had to realize I was the person overcomplicating it. I am a very analytical thinker, I used to over think, I am a recovering perfectionist and because of that, I was in my own way. Even as a high achieving woman, I too encountered imposter syndrome. To add on to that, I was determined to take this journey alone, which was a huge mistake. It took me having a horrible season of results, life was chaotic, which led to me taking a break, re-evaluating and coming back stronger than ever. this took some deep inner work that I could not do alone.

I offer business and mindset coaching. Whats unique about my coaching programs is that I do not focus only on business strategy or mindset or lifestyle. As a certified business and life strategist with over 15 years of corporate leadership, strategic planning experience and 5 years of entrepreneurship experience, I have curated programs that address all aspects of growing a scaling a business: strategy, mindset, productivity, leadership and life!

The Solo 2 CEO Academy is about meeting women where there as Solos, putting a solid foundation in place and guiding them through the journey of scaling their business to become CEOs. So there are various levels of coaching offered in the Academy.

The fundamental principles of my teachings is that I believe high achieving women should not have to sacrifice their goals or their sanity to lead in their career and/or business. We say good bye to winging it and hustling and strategically grow a thriving business while unleashing our authenticity, creating more time and unlock leaders of teams with efficient processes and systems and resilience. There is nothing like running a business that you love and can be your full self in!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So first and foremost I am a foodie and our very first stop is breakfast at The Breakfast Klub in midtown. I bring all my family and friends there who visit for amazing food and a family atmosphere.

Most likely we would eat the entire time LOLL. We are eating and hanging out at The Turkey Leg Hut

We would check out an amazing live band at Phil and Derek’s Lounge and some good cajun food.

Most likely that weekend we are of course eating again at Post HTX and hang out at on the rooftop

Some of my favorite hang out areas are Post Oak and City Centre but we are definitely eating and grabbing drinks at Moxie’s.

Can you tell I like to eat LOL

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my husband! My husband has been so supportive throughout this journey. Entrepreneurship is hard and can be lonely, but not having to carry the weight of wondering if you’re spouse is on board has been invaluable. He has allowed me to flourish and blossom without envy, ego or exhaustion. I want to thank him with fiber of my being.

I have a business tribe that I lean on because we are not meant to do this alone. I have a mentor, coach, accountability partner, business bestie and my therapist; therapy is our friend. This group of ladies keep me on my game, God knows that’s a full time job lol. I believe we can go fast by ourselves or farther with a team!

A book I’m currently reading that is extremely valuable is, How to Think and Grow Rich. OMG, what a game changer in shifting your mindset!
