We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaya Lovell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaya, what is the most important factor behind your success?
You can’t worry about what others think of you. You can’t let fear of rejection or embarrassment stop you from reaching your true potential. The people who hate you, will probably continue to hate you no matter what you do. The people who love you, will continue to love you no matter what you do.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music is meant to heal myself and others. I’m simply sharing experiences of my own in hopes that those who relate will appreciate the fact that they are not alone. I strive to be creative as possible while also being simplistic. I’ve learned a lot thus far and I have a lot more to learn. This season of my journey is all about growth and improvement. I’d rather make mistakes than be too afraid of them to try. The road hasn’t been easy and won’t get any easier, but I’m up for the challenge. The thrill of it all keeps me going.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a pizza kind of girl. My family is from New York so I love getting a good slice of New York style pizza. One of my favorite pizza spots in downtown Houston is “Frank’s Pizza”. If you visit me, I am going to take you to “Frank’s”, period. Next, we have to hit the thrift stories. Lo-fi, Petty Cash, Leapord Lounge, and BounceBack are some of my favs. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The first shoutout goes to God. Without my faith I couldn’t achieve half of the things I have achieved and will achieve. Next shouts goes to my parents. Their support means a lot to me even on the days I forget to express my gratitude. And I can’t give out credit without recognizing Nytmare and Jigga; my producers and good friends. They’ve been around during the beginning of my music journey and they’ll be here when I blow. These guys have played a key role in the development of my sound and creativity. I want to shout out my manager for believing in me and doing everything he can to help me succeed. Shoutout to my team and my artist friends who are always there to talk to and offer advice in this crazy business. And finally, I want to think all of my supporters who stream my music, share it with others, engage on social media, etc. I do this for you guys.
