We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, what role has risk played in your life or career?
before i was a nail tech, i was a photographer. Taking risk got me pretty far in the photography business to the point i was starting to rub shoulders with some known celebrities but unfortunately i gave up on photography due to lack of confidence. But now that i am a nail tech, I took all my mistakes from being a photography and let that mold me to an even better entrepreneur/business owner. I’ve quit my full time job to do nails and it has been such an adventure but i trust God and allowed him to know how serious i was of my decision and he has truly been making a way for me and also my consistently and dedication! Don’t allow the fear of risk stop you because regardless you are going to fail but failing does not mean the end, just find a new route to success

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Nothing that i have accomplished has been easy by far! I am a mother to a beautiful 2 year old and i also lost my mother! So it has been so hard trying to figure out schedules but i am getting it in order! It’ll work out for us . But she also is motivation for me because regardless i have to be successful & will be!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I mean i stay in Shreveport so it’s not much to do but eat crawfish and drink daiquiris but you can always visit La Daiquiri .. that’s lit, that’s a vibe . Dinos Billiards on Friday’s S/O to Cordaro Lee !!!

You can go Style bar where it gets real ratchet if you on that type of time. Or even Haze . Visit Myron Douglas, Kim
Jackson or Jay Carey, Jordan Lewis if you want a good seafood plate

Herman Jackson if you want some BOMB ASS wings! Legitimately the best wings I’ve ever had.

Rakeyda Evans for you desserts (choc covered strawberries, cheesecake bites etc ..

And Vandala Gordon if you want some Amazing Cookies !!! I mean UH-MAY-ZING, she is also the bartender at Dino’s Billiards and she makes top tier drinks..

These are all black owned businesses 🫶🏾

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout out to 1. Her name is Casandra Hart. One of MY BIGGEST Mentors, she definitely keeps me focused and level headed. She was the first nail class that i attended and now like 2 years later i work in her shop! It’s truly an honor & she is a bad ass nail tech! Please check her out

And also another shout out to Kim Jackson! She has been also such a breath of fresh air in my life . She has supported me many of times and she also makes some delicious seafood but seeing her through her trials and tribulations of her getting her business inspired me to keep going regardless!
