We had the good fortune of connecting with Leann Veal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leann, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Transparency. I work with a lot of women, so it’s important for me to be honest and open with them from a photographer’s perspective. Some clients come to me with ideas and I openly tell them that they should try a different approach to what speaks to their target audience— not to what’s “cute” or “trendy”. Being transparent with my clients has allowed me to know them on a deeper level and truly capture the essence of their brand.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The fact that I am myself is the key factor. I aspire to be a greater me and I know that this sets me apart from others. I’ve never cared to fit in or conform to societies standards. I do what works for the best interest of myself and clientele.
The business woman I am today is so different from when I began — thank God for growth. It took trial and error to get here. It was far from easy but I appreciate those tough lessons because they molded me into the woman I am today.
I’ve learned that communication is key. This is one that I am honestly still working on but it plays a big factor in client experience. Though I still have more learning and growing to do, I’m happy to be able to look back and recognize the difference between then and now.
What I want the world to know about Crowned Photography is that I’m here for the women who look like me — period. Black women need proper representation to showcase the impact they make to the world. I’m always honored to be chosen as someone’s photographer because not only will they receive digital images, some also gain words of encouragement while we are shooting. I witness some clients transform right before me and to see their confidence come alive — it lets me know that I’m doing my job
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Baton Rouge has some amazing places to visit. For a week long vacation, I highly recommend incorporating a spa day at Destination Gleaux or Trevon Dyson Skin and Beauty. Bull Chicks on Coursey has some of the best burgers and lemonade. A walk along the levee Downtown at night is very peaceful. If it’s a group of friends, book a night time bike ride with Geaux Ride, they are located in Downtown Baton Rouge as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate a shout-out to my family, my mentor Sasha Matthews (Green Tangerine Photography). To my amazing clients who speak life and encourage me all the time — just to name a few Adrienne Smith (Destination Gleaux), Nicole Thomas (Nicole Thomas Inc., & Impact Nurse Consulting), De’Van S. Perrilloux (Boundless Consulting), Danielle Bertrand (Girl, It’s Go Time), and so many more. These people have truly contributed to pivotal moments in my entrepreneurial journey.
