We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexi Snyder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lexi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As with any business, I feel like the start of one should be from discovering a problem in the market that isn’t being tailored to or resolved. With Blackberry Park, that problem we saw in Houston’s event industry was the lack of venue diversity for Clients who wanted to host an event and do it in a way that was completely off the beaten path from the trends that we’ve seen in the past 15 years. Our solution to that was to offer them a unique, comfortable, and fun alternative to the way one can celebrate their special occasion, and a way for them to truly impress their Guests! Now given, Houston has many great event venues, don’t get me wrong….but we felt Blackberry Park and our Giant Event Tipis was in its own gorgeous and authentic realm of beauty that was no where to be seen yet in our local market. So our resolution to this problem was to bring an authentic venue option into Houston’s mix, and we’re so grateful for both the support we’ve seen from our Clients but also the community support overall.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We started in 2015 as a private Event Consulting Firm, Inventive Events, LLC. which is still going strong today. In this time, we’ve traveled all over Houston (and Texas in general), and worked at 100’s of other venues. We saw what Clients gravitated to naturally for their event desires, the options they had available in the industry and local Houston market, and the merge of those desires and offerings. This helped us identify the gaps that were there between a Client and the Venues. Once 2019 rolled around, we were ready to offer something so different to Houston and the local surrounding area, and really wanted to revolutionize the event venue options Clients had out there. It wasn’t simple, as you can imagine, being the ‘Tipi Lady’. It’s had it’s challengers such as I never realized how many videos and showcases I’d have to do so that people really grasped how giant these tipis are-haha! The compliment we hear the most is how giant they are which makes them so perfect for large events, yet how they are cozy they are with their warming and intimate atmosphere. Our happy moments are when we Clients come out to see the venue, and they are extremely impressed with their beauty.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a long-time-not-seem friend come in to the city, I would take them to a few of my favorite spots! First stop would be a paint-and-sip place, ‘Painting with A Twist’! There is nothing like a nice glass of wine while you unwind the creative flow and catch up on some great stories with your friends or family. The best thing about it is that it’s great to support a small local business, and you also get to take your painting home and hang it on the wall for great memories! Once we painted the early evening away, we’d catch some dinner at Houston’s many great food trucks that are often lined down Westheimer. You honestly could pick almost any one and get something authentic and delicious. It’s another great way to support a small local business owner. We’d then land at one of my favorite dance spots…Numbers. This would of course have to be on Friday night when they have 80’s night, because I’m an 80’s girl, love to dance, and ‘if your friends don’t dance and if they don’t dance, then they’re no friends of mine’ as the song says! Hahaha!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I think about where the company started, and how far it’s come from, the support has been tremendous from the community, fellow event vendors, and especially our hard-working employees. But I know for sure we would be no where if it wasn’t for the support from my family (my husband and 2 awesome kiddos). You wouldn’t believe the look I got when I ran into our bedroom one late night and said…”We’re getting giant tipis!”. They’ve given me unbelievable support and confidence needed to create these blue oceans and offer something so different that even sometimes I have to stand back and think of the amazing opportunity and option we’ve brought to the market for Clients looking to host their next special event.
