We had the good fortune of connecting with Linda Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Linda, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
We believe in the importance of being “hands on” as business owner.
In order to oversee or control the day to day operations. You must be the first to arrive and last to leave. If you are not transparent and visible to your business, the guests, your team .. how do you expect the business to run the way you expect it to.
Its easy to open a business but it is very hard to build a solid team. Communication is also a huge requirement in what we do. We are not mind readers. If you can accommodate your teams needs and wants then they will be happy and provide the needs and wants for your guests. Once you dedicate the time and effort into building up your team, culture, and processes .. everything else will come into place and you then can go on vacation or step back.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Customer service, quality , and consistency is very important to us. We also heavily believe in an open & honest environment through communication. We treat each other like family. Building company cultures is very difficult. We never give up on you unless you give up on yourself. If you work hard, the work you put out will be recognized , you don’t have to “tell” people that you are a hard worker. Much like if you are a good student , your grades will reflect that. It is not easy to teach people how to speak properly , dress a certain way, or be on time because most of us assume that we each should already have this instilled in us at a young age. We overcome all of our challenges by LISTENING .. understanding , the ability to sympathize, patience , and care. One key lesson we learned along the way is that if we see you try , we will always support you. As long as you’re self-aware and learn from your mistakes then thats all we can ask for. We are all human, we are not perfect.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being a foodie myself .. we would hit up China town , Montrose , East End for all the best food , drinks, and entertainment. For family style meals, I’d recommend Confucius Seafood Restaurant for the best butter & black pepper lobster & finger licking beef ribs. For a taste of Vietnam , I’d recommend Kim Son’s buffet. From snails, to noodle soups, Vietnamese style crepes .. everything is to die for ! In the East End district, theres Cidercade which is currently the best arcade bar in Houston. Houston has one of the most diverse food scene, amazing parks, and museums.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our Founder Ronnie Nguyen who is also my business partner and husband who always pushes the importance of coaching , supporting , and being servant leaders to our entire team. A huge shoutout to our management team who currently oversees our 3 locations and have been great leaders in their role. Nothing comes easy but if you believe in the process.. if you put yourselves in uncomfortable positions to be comfortable & masters at your craft. You will succeed.
