We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Madeksho and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madison, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
I stopped overbooking. You can burn yourself out trying to finish everything, or you can let people down but not having enough time. The best thing to do is only schedule what you know you can do! Also make sure to enjoy what you are doing, and it will never feel like work!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my business after the birth of my second baby and the loss of my father. The name Mad Cakes Bakery is from my last name Madeksho, in honor of his life. My father always supported me and I think of him every step of the way. When I had my children I stopped working in front end grocery store management and stayed home to take care and spend time with them. But while staying at home I felt like I could always do more, so starting on my son’s first birthday I decided to make him a cake and it took off from there. I’ve learned that posting everything gives you most exposure. When I first started I didn’t have many followers or very much experience but as I learned new skills and gained more followers, it got easier. Biggest thing to learn is that anything worth doing takes time.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would show them the kemah boardwalk, and one of my favorite restaurants, Merlion Thai Restaurant.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My customers! Without the support of everyone who has placed an order and decided to help me grow my business I would not have the following I do today.
