We had the good fortune of connecting with Miriam Valencia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miriam, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in California, but my family is from Mexico. We were raised with the reminder that we come from a hard-working nation and to never be embarrassed of our roots. Knowing where I come from has always encouraged me to never give up. I put myself through college-sometimes working two jobs at once to make sure my school and bills were paid. Now that I have a daughter, I work even harder than before to make sure that she won’t ever worry about paying for school and have a great education.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a real estate agent with Abby Realty, LLC and specialize in helping DACA and ITIN recipients. I decided to become a real estate agent the summer of 2019 because when my husband and I were looking for a home, a lot of banks said they didn’t work with DACA. I took matters into my own hands and decided I would find a way to help other people in our shoes. My first year as an agent was placed on pause after I started teaching at a local high school. I loved teaching but after COVID-19 hit, I decided it was time to keep pursing my dream and build my business. The home market is very competitive for realtor, but I have my faith and I know my business will keep growing as long as I help my clients the right way. My personal brand name is La Realtor because of the game Loteria. Is a game we grew up playing with my family and still play to this day. I made myself into one of the cards because I feel it shows where I come from and who I am. I am La Realtor who is hard working and helps others. My husband and I had a vision when we first got married that one day we’d form a real estate team. This year he got laid off work and pursued his real estate license as well. We have reached the first part of our goal- to become the Cantu Elite Team who’s goal is to help everyone achieve the American Dream.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take care everywhere! I love looking for new places to eat all over the Houston area, but of course, Mexican spicy food is my favorite. Some of my favorite places to eat breakfast are La Cuchara for breakfast, Lupe Tortilla for Lunch, and Taconmadre for dinner. I love being near the water so I would take her swimming! Galveston is nice to see a vast body of water, but I prefer rivers. I love the freshness of the water and the ability to relax and have a good time. Another place she’d have fun would be Schlitterbahn. During the weekend, the heights would be the place to be. Little Woodrows is a favorite of mine.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to my husband, Erick, for nominating me! He has always been very supportive and loving. I would also like to shoutout my family-mom, dad, sisters and brothers. They work hard every day and won’t stop until we reach the goal.
