We had the good fortune of connecting with Neeli Sharrett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Neeli, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well I love jewelry of course! In all seriousness, I love a challenge to understand a process of building something. As a child, I was that kid who would be called on to figure out how to fix things around the house. As an adult with a science degree, I work in the clinical research industry responsible for implementing technology. After having children and failing at candle and lip balm making, I started exploring jewelry making. With no experience in this field, I taught myself to design, build, and handcraft jewelry. My small business began as a result of experimenting with creativity. By day a technology scientist and by night a jewelry scientist!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My jewelry is handcrafted with natural materials such as leather, metals, recycled glass, wood, concrete, and gold accents. It’s casual & eclectic with a touch of boho-chic. My design itself is unique which sets my collection apart from others. I’m proud to have challenged, taught, and built this collection myself. I’m excited about the future as well as continued collaborations to create more one-of-a-kind and timeless jewelry collections. It’s never easy trying to juggle work, life, children’s activities, home duties while also running a small business, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I use the following tagline which best describes my vision for my jewelry collection and life in general – Be bold, Be unique, Be beautiful, Be you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is such a diverse city with great food! Friday night is for tex-mex and margaritas at my fav neighborhood joint Romero’s Las Brazas. Saturday hitting up local markets and pop-ups around town while grabbing bits to eat at food truck vendors. Vic & Anthonys for drinks and the best steak dinner ever. Sunday brunch and shopping anywhere in the heights.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The Shoutout series goes to my circle. My mom for always pushing me to be my best and accept a challenge. My husband for supporting me even after wax exploded in the microwave and helping me with the heavy lifting during setup/breakdown at shows. My kids who I hope see their mom working hard day/night and grow-up with the same determination and drive. My friend Jennie for supporting my creativity and standing by me at shows to sell my brand. And my friend Myrna, talent artist who I met at a show and instantly became friends as well as collaborating to create concrete jewelry.
