Meet Nelson Diaz | HR Specialist and Handyman

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nelson Diaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nelson, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
“The thought process behind starting my own handyman business stems from a combination of my personal skills, my desire for hands-on work, and my background in Human Resources. For years, I worked for Chevron in HR, where I developed strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. While I enjoyed my career in HR, I always had a passion for working with my hands — whether it was tackling home repairs, fixing things around the house, or helping friends and family with their projects. Over time, I realized that I had a talent for it and a real satisfaction from completing practical tasks.
What really pushed me to take the leap into starting my own business was the realization that I could combine my people skills from HR with my knack for repairs. In HR, I learned how to work with diverse groups, solve problems efficiently, and handle client relationships — all of which I now use to build trust and communicate effectively with my customers. At the same time, I saw a real need in the market for reliable, trustworthy handymen who can offer high-quality, on-time services.
I knew that my background in a corporate environment, where attention to detail and quality are critical, would translate well into running my own business. The idea of providing top-notch service while also creating personal connections with clients became a key driver for me. I wanted to build a business that people could count on for integrity and professionalism — something I felt was important both in HR and in home repairs.
Starting a handyman business gave me the opportunity to combine my HR skills with my passion for working with my hands, offering a service that not only fulfills a need but also allows me to be independent, flexible, and directly involved with my community. It’s been a rewarding journey so far, and I’m excited to continue building this business with a strong focus on reliability and customer satisfaction.”

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Owning a Mr. Handyman franchise means you’re providing essential home maintenance and repair services while building a trusted brand in your community.
**”I’m the proud owner of a Mr. Handyman franchise, where we specialize in providing reliable, high-quality home repair and maintenance services. What sets us apart is our commitment to professionalism, craftsmanship, and customer satisfaction. Owning this business has been an incredible journey—it hasn’t always been easy, but through hard work, dedication, and a strong team, we’ve built something truly special.
Like any business, there have been challenges, from managing operations to ensuring top-notch service, but I’ve learned that resilience, adaptability, and putting customers first make all the difference. My goal is to not only help homeowners with their repair needs but also to create a business that stands for trust, quality, and reliability in the community.
I want the world to know that when you choose Mr. Handyman, you’re choosing skilled professionals who care about your home as much as you do.”**
