We had the good fortune of connecting with Noah Archangel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Noah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well the business is in the music industry, and at the time that industry was turning negative. I started The Band of the Hawk because I wanted to be the change I wanted to see. Instead of crying about why they only put out drug and stripper rap, I decided to make groovy political rap. Instead of asking why is it only solo artists, I made a rap group as an example to show young kids that it is good to work with each other. Instead of asking why do we not promote our rich history and ancestors, I made that the theme of my crew with the Egyptian symbolism and African arts in the album covers and on the merchandise. Basically, I made what I wanted to see and hear go on in the music landscape. The Band of the Hawk Underground Pyramid Crew #BOHUP

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Nothing worth keeping comes easy. The Band of the Hawk is a music group, record label, streetwear brand and social club. It was hard bringing 7 strong black men together for one common cause. It is even harder when the success is based off monetary gain in a industry where that is nonexistent if you are not pushing the drug dealer narrative. It is a uphill battle, but just like the Black Panthers, we push through. We are like them in a since that we aim to uplift the people through music and art without preaching. Today we have families that all provide some type of art to help move the #BOHUP crew forward. The challenge was having to provide a safe space for everyone to come to and let loose their creative juices. At the same time saccrificing the time needed to execute the studio time, merchandise design, video editing and the money to back it. When it is all said and done, I have no regrets because I made the change I wanted to see.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston is a huge city but I only do what I want so it would go something like this. We would have to hang out at my favorite spots like Jevi Hookah, Prospect Park and Dave and Busters. We gotta eat some Turkey Leg hut, Lotus Seafood & Pappadeauxs. I have to show you the historical black areas like 3rd & 5th Ward. The Buffalo Soldiers museum, Shape Center and the Hip Hop Vintage Flea Market. After all that maybe do some Top Golf, laser Tag or a Pub Crawl. Of course I’m gonna show you the Hawk’s Nest where all the crew hangs out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My pops Charles Savage and his non profit organization The Urban Enrichment Institute. I was a student of this program years ago and it gave me the confidence and social skills that I use to this day to be successful. All the technological knowledge I have is from the computer program where us black boys were taking apart donated computers and learning how to build hardware and install software. That type of knowledge back then was priceless because it was before Youtube and the social media. Now they have finance, music and Fashion Design programs for the youth. Please look them up and donate if you can afford to. If you are a resident of Fifth Ward, look them up and sign your sons up for it.
