We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Rivera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always felt like an entrepreneur this is an interesting question because the first thing that comes to everyone’s mind is that we went into this looking for a way to make more money and do less work and in reality we do so much more work and a lot of times the money has ups and downs, but the biggest thing for me about being an entrepreneur is just having that control of what my own time looks like. I am willing to work 18 hours a day sometimes for what’s building me as a business and as a brand versus putting in your traditional eight hours building someone else’s, and feeling unfulfilled.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve been a business owner for over 10 years now I’ve been a hairstylist for over 12 years now and I am in my second year of real estate. I took the challenge to start real estate in a tougher market but I’ve always believe nothing worth having is going to come easy, I have loved what I’ve done for the last 12 years but as I get older I wanted to transition into doing something less physical for a while now I went back-and-forth about what that transition look like and where would my next move be in coming from someone who had a sales/ customer experience background I’ve always been interested in the real estate market. Selling homes and working with people for someone who is a shopaholic as well day is a dream job, viewing the most beautiful homes in the city all day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The great thing about Houston is there really is something for everyone depending on what you’re into there’s everything from shopping, art, physical activity places, ballet you name it Houston has it. Food is huge for Houston with it being a melting pot of cultures. For me I feel like the things you have to experience when you come to Houston are number one the restaurants. I am a big steakhouse girl as well as Korean barbecue one of the most for filling things that I’ve done is take time to visit the Rothko chapel it is a very unique place if you haven’t heard of it where you can go pray meditate or just sit in silence they don’t allow photos, videos or talking the artwork there is incredible and it’s just something you have to see.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a circle of the most amazing women who are all entrepreneurs, I have built a foundation of different business owners but all very dedicated and self driven people who keep me inspired and passionate about growth. Watching them makes me constantly challenge myself for what’s next and what else I can improve on.
