We had the good fortune of connecting with Savannah Brazil and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Savannah, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I believe one thing outsiders are unaware of in the art industry is how valuable art is. How much thought and effort that’s put into each creative piece.
What should our readers know about your business?
Badly Proper is a mixed media art company ran by two military veterans. We first started out in the garage of our apartment and showing our work at a few art pop-ups throughout Houston. We have now grown a following on Instagram, Facebook and just now starting on TikTok. We’ve created our own website that now sells original art pieces as well as clothing and other merchandise. It has taken us a lot of time, dedication, word of mouth and money to get us to where we are now. The great thing is, we’re just starting and we don’t plan on slowing down.
Just some piece of advice that was given to us when we were starting out…don’t undersell yourself and your work. You put a lot of time, money and hard work into what you do. Don’t let someone tell you that it’s priced too high or doesn’t fit in with the new “fad”. The right person will come around and they will see the value of your work and want to buy it from you. Keep pushing forward and keep striving for more.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d say the graffiti wall in Houston as well as some pop-up art shows. Gives people from outside of Texas the idea of what kind of talent Texans have. For places to eat…our favorite type of restaurant are all the breweries around Houston and surrounding cities. Good drinks and who doesn’t love bar food?
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be the owner and Co-Founder of Badly Proper if it wasn’t for my husband, Braven Brazil, who’s the artist behind all the great art pieces we sell.
