We had the good fortune of connecting with Spencer Joii Hoisington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Spencer Joii, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
I’d like to be buying fixer uppers and selling them after making them over. That’s the overall goal.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m still learning. Every project has its challenges, and while it can be frustrating… I love the problem solving aspect of it. Even when I’m in the middle of it all, I have to remind myself to breathe, be patient and think of how It’ll look when all the hard work is done. I love watching it all come together. It’s not always easy, but the rewarding feeling I have in the end makes it all worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a huge sucker for breakfast food so we’d probably go to; The Toasted Yolk, First Watch, Republic Roots, And The Teahouse. Movie night at Star Cinema Grill or maybe even hit the drive in, The Showboat Drive In. My favorite spot to walk and get away is Cullinan Park. I do love the Houston Zoo and Museum District. I just love looking at the houses.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Two people who were a big inspiration for me growing up; Dick Philips & Laura Quinn. My neighbors and family friends when I was a kid. I’d go over and paint with him, listening to music. Even after we moved, when we would go back to visit… Laura had painted the whole house and completely transformed it. I loved the quirkinesses and how different it was from any house I’d seen. I didn’t know it then, but that’s when I fell in love with interior makeovers.
