We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Shaw Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamara, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
This is a great question! Honestly, since I don’t believe in giving up, I would rephrase it as “How to know whether to keep going or transition your business?” Every place you end up is an opportunity to keep going. That sometimes calls you to transition Instead of giving up when things don’t work out in your favor. The key is to use all experiences, good and bad, to evolve into to next level of who and what you want your brand to become.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Imperial Realty LLC is a Real Estate Firm that was created to fill a void in the real estate industry. Being licensed since 2017, I am still what I and others may consider a “baby” Realtor in the game. However, I quickly noticed the lack of education and resources in the Black community when it pertains obtaining and creating wealth via real estate. A lack which we tend to fill.
It wasn’t easy finding my footing in an industry so inclusive of many many talented individuals. I am actually still trying to build a plane and fly it at the same time, but what I have learned is there are so many people that are cheering you on, seen and unseen. As long as your work reflects good intentions, business will come.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a local girl. Graduated from Alief Hastings High School… Shoutout SWAT! So local is what I love. We’d stop by Lotus Seafood of course,, maybe stop by The Candy Shack then swing by Sugar Rush for Dessert. I’d definitely stop by MLK on Sundays to show them how H-Town does it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Always! My beau and Think Tank partner of 10 years. Of course there have been plenty of instrumental people since I can remember but no one as special outside of my girls, who has been everything from my open house assistant to my career therapist lol. Walter, thank you for evolving with me as a woman, a mother, a CEO, a friend and wife. I love you.
