We had the good fortune of connecting with Thyra Clagg Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Thyra, how do you think about risk?
I think taking risks is definitely part of my success. I go with my gut. Even if I have doubts, if my overwhelming feeling is to proceed or I think it may work, then I do it. If I fail, then at least I tried. I have a fire and desire to do better always. Providing for my family while being able to help others grow their businesses at the same time is what I work hard to do. And taking risks to grow and expand is part of that process.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Hi there! My Business is WGNO, LLC… it started from my 1st Facebook group where I saw a need for affordable advertising and support for women in business. That group now has 20,000+ local ladies all supporting each other and it’s become more than I could have ever imagined when I created it in 2015. And that is thanks to the group members and moderators making it so amazing. No negative vibes allowed! We have a free happy hour and brunch every month as well as Vendor events. From there sprung other groups in other cities such as Lubbock Girls Night Out which has 13,000 ladies. And we are growing in Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Tyler, and Corpus Christi to name a few. In October 2019 from WGNO we launched the WGNO Sororities Industry Exclusive Networking Groups which are weekly meetings where only one lady per industry can join. They build friendships and learn about each others businesses to help each other grow professionally and personally. The support I saw between the group members during lockdowns was incredible and we continue that support daily. We started with 5 groups called “Houses” and now we have 15 encompassing the Woodlands, Spring, Conroe, Magnolia, Montgomery, Tomball, Cypress, Katy, and Kingwood with 3 more Houses starting in April (Cypress, Houston and Lubbock). We now have well over 300 members called Sisters among the current 15 Houses. And we are growing daily! I am so proud of the Sister of the WGNO Sorority Houses. They work so hard to help each other succeed. It really inspires me to keep going daily because businesses are thriving from it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the Woodlands! Its beautiful and definitely a cool place to visit. Market Street is fun for shopping and restaurants. I would take them to as many local establishments as possible. Supporting local business is more important than ever right now. Add in some Axe throwing and local breweries too!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout goes to my moderators (and best friends now!) of my first Facebook group, Woodlands Girls Night Out #WGNO. They have backed every move I have made along the way with the Group and expanding to over 20 cities and then into launching the Sororities especially with Jen Ragain’s help. They are my sounding board for ideas and they ground me daily and they help me get through my difficult days and my best days. I appreciate them very much and wouldn’t want to be with out them!
