We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
City Girls welcomes all women, all ages, to come together, walk, explore Houston, and experience social, cultural, and wellness activities. Whether a woman has lived in Houston a day, a year, or a lifetime, there’s a place for her at City Girls. It’s that simple. The greatest impact we have with the women in our organization is the inclusive way we’re building community within the community, making Houston a bit smaller by creating space for women of all backgrounds to meet – simply because of a shared interest in taking walks – and enjoying our community together. In addition to the benefit of hundreds of women feeling good vibes after every walk, our greatest impact on Houston is our intentional (and enthusiastic) support of local businesses, our philanthropic endeavors, and our partnerships with other likeminded organizations.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
All of us at City Girls LOVE Houston. If you’re spending a long weekend with us, here’s our plan:
Thursday: begin our day with a yoga class at Black Swan Yoga in the Heights, grab a juice afterwards at Juiceland, take a walk through the historic Heights neighborhood, taking a group photo at the “Houston” mural, stopping by Favor the Kind to browse their goodies, making our way up to Common Bond on 19th Street for lunch, then window shopping the galleries, antique shops, and boutiques along 20th Street. In the afternoon we’ll visit the Menil Museum and Rothko Chapel before a fun dance class with Slā by Jenny at her beautiful treehouse studio. That evening, we’ll head over to Post HTX and have our choice of dinner from the various food booths, go up on the roof for a scenic panoramic view of downtown Houston, then stay for either a (rooftop) Salsa lesson or Zumba class, before ending our evening with ice cream from Flower & Cream.
Friday: We’ll begin our day with a walk in Memorial Park, stopping by the Beer Can House (a must for everyone visiting Houston), before we head over to TacoDeli for breakfast tacos. After breakfast, we’ll make a fun stop at the Art Car Museum, then tour the Bayou Bend Collections in River Oaks, before we sort donations for the City Girls Community Closet. We’ll enjoy a late lunch on the patio at Empire Cafe followed by window shopping along Westheimer. For those who want some R&R, a massage at Midtown Reflexology is the perfect stop. Those seeking more activity will head over to PKL Social for a few rounds of pickleball. That evening, we’re having a casual bite to eat at Epicure Cafe then making our way to Discovery Green for a free dance lesson, people watching, and live music in the park.
Saturday: We’ll be the first to arrive at Cielito Cafe enjoying breakfast and their famed Café de Coco before heading over to the Museum District. We’ll drive through a few historic streets, circling the iconic Hermann Fountain, then taking a photo at the Cloud Column Sculpture (aka “the Bean”), before we visit our choice of the 22 local museums. An early dinner at Eloise Nichols, then we’re enjoying an evening relaxing under the stars hillside at the Miller Outdoor Theater with snacks from Phoenicia and a box of cookies from Michael’s Cookie Jar.
Sunday: If it’s Sunday, it’s City Girls! We’ll begin our day in Buffalo Bayou Park walking with the City Girls and afterwards enjoying coffee and conversation at Blendin. We’ll tour iconic murals and street art throughout downtown ending at the “We Love Houston” mural for a photo. While we’re there, we’ll stop by Retrospect Coffee Bar for a glimpse into historic Houston and enjoy a light bite outside on the patio before making our way to a local farmer’s market, then lunch at Langford Market.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
SHOUTOUT to all of the women who have joined City Girls and walked step-by-step, side-by-side with us each week for the past two years. It is profoundly meaningful experiencing the magic of a hundred strangers coming together because of this one thing we have in common – enjoying walking/rolling surrounded by nature. It’s inspiring watching City Girls meet, connect, and become friends.
