Meet Virginia Logan | Yoga Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Virginia Logan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Virginia, what’s your definition for success?
Success comes in many different forms. The most obvious as a yoga teacher, would be hearing from your students that the class felt good to their body and they are walking out the studio door feeling better than they arrived. In my eyes the greater successes are when they use what they learned in class off of their mat. When students come back to class and share stories of how they used something I spoke towards in class during a hard moment, and they were successful at shifting the perspective, finding their breath and calming their mind. Those are the moments I’m most proud of, because that is what yoga is truly about. Bringing yourself to the present moment and all it has to offer. Calming the ever changing fluctuations of the mind.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Vinyasa with Virginia’s sole purpose is to create fun experiences that honor authentic yogic principles. I plan and host events or workshops that I, as a student, would be eager to attend. Each event has been unique and a joy to put together. My favorite events have been what I like to think of as “mini retreats.” There are multiple activities or practices all packed and delivered in one offering to the student. The goal of each of these is different. Sometimes the aim is manifesting new goals through vision boards, other times it is to let creativity flow through you spontaneously onto canvas, or to reflect inward through guided journaling. I pair all of these activities with asana, meditation or pranayama for a true connection of the body, mind and breath. The challenge of being in the event hosting space is finding students, to overcome this hurdle I rely on the support of the community and to create symbiotic relationships with other local businesses. I’ve learned that there is an abundance of students just waiting for the right event to speak to them, and in that abundance there is room for all teachers. I want the world to know that each body is a yoga body, and you have been practicing yoga since you took your first breath. The practice is so much deeper than moving your body, standing on your head or wearing cute pants. It’s about gaining tools to help you navigate the challenges life throws your way, and using them to bring you back to where peace exists…the present moment.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston has a wonderful blend of cultures. So being a foodie, to me it’s heaven. The Bay Area of Houston has a lot to offer. For authentic Italian and French cuisine I would stop at Monna Lisa Trattoria in Kemah, and nearby if craft beers are more your style you have to try the food at Skallywags (the Asian pork belly tacos are amazing), for amazing sushi in Clear Lake I’d take my bestie to Michiru and for Vietnamese we’d go to Pho Barr in Nassau Bay. I enjoy spending time at the beach or near the water, and I love a good roller coaster so the Bullet at the Kemah Boardwalk is a must (it’s may look small but beware). If you feel like getting wet, hop on the Boardwalk Beast speed boat for a thrilling high speed ride through the bay. To me some of the best Saturday’s have been spent at local markets, supporting small businesses and taking home unique pieces. The Seabrook trails offer a beautiful walk through butterfly gardens and bird sanctuaries, and I love taking long walks submersing myself in nature. Maas Nursery in Seabrook is massive and offers the same experience as a botanical garden, I especially love their bonsai collection. For a fun night out I recently stopped in at Cocos on the Canal and saw some amazing karaoke performances and had a delicious tiki style drink.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have had many great teachers and mentors pass down their teachings. Every class you take there’s no doubt going to be a golden nugget you take away and use later on in your own classes, maybe it’s a sequence of poses or a specific way of teaching a breath practice. Maybe it’s a simple phrase you found to be illuminating. My mentor Heather Delia in Shreveport, Louisiana gave me such encouragement during practice as well as her employee in her studio. When I moved to Maryland we stayed in touch and I kept her up to date on each path of my yoga journey. She answered my questions, offered advice and cheered me on. The studio owners I work for now in the Bay Area of Houston are amazing women. They are mothers and successful business owners. They have supported me through all of my endeavors and remained constantly open to all of the changes I have made. It has been such a gift to work for and with women who truly are in my corner and appreciate how I teach.
