We had the good fortune of connecting with Yolan A poets Poet Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yolan A poets Poet, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Yes “Iron sharpens iron, no matter how old or young it is” This was a quote i created. It means that you should be able to receive wisdom from anyone of any age. What i love the most about this quote is how true the statement is. i try to live my life open to receiving something from everyone i encounter in live.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is writing, poetry, spoken word, and acting. From my understanding from fans and friends what sets me apart from others is my delivery. i’m always beening told that my Poetry is timeless. Telling great stories that feels like a movie from begginnig to end. what im most proud and excited about is watching where live has taken or is taking me in life. over 15yrs in the arts and im still being ask to do shows, events, stage plays, and now flims, Professionally in the entertainment industry i started out truthfully not even looking to do this for a living. i would go to open mics and just release what ever was on my heart (my truth) plus is was just amazing to see so many beautiful spoken word artist or poets who was out here just for the love and the culture. I belive after the 3rd time i hit the stage was when i notice after i would give of the stage, people would come up to me asking me to do a private event, perform at schools, which then turned into offers to be in plays which then turned into flims and voice overs. So what was just something to do took on a path of doing it as a profession, Yes it was easy lol only because it was always fun, exhausting some times because it from 1 to 2 shows a week to 7 days a week while reading multiple scripts. i also was still working in my daily 9 to 5 in my medical profession, so i would work a 12 hour shift, go home and change then perform, so you can imagine getting off late then trying to memorize this new poem and lines and scenes for whatever project at the time. The lessons i learned on the way was that…whatever you want in life you must work hard for it. nothing comes easy so everything that i attempt to do i have to give it my all. Also, be your biggest supporter. I want the world to know my story, my story in life. I as an artist you realize how so many people have experience the same hurts, habits, and hang ups i have they may not have the courage or the will to get in front of hundreds of people and express it, So i want the world to know they are not alone and we are alot more alike then people tend to belive.
